Boy, once I heard detector is old, replace it now. Smoke detectors only last 7 to max 10 years.the radiation element part detector wears out. Not worth it trying to fix old technology. New ones aren't that expensive compared to your life.

How do I make smoke alram stop going off when there is no smoke or fire.

If it does not have a battery backup there is a good chance it is over 20 years old and needs to be replaced.

Installed fresh battery in my Kidde smoke detector Model i12060A and after about 9 hours it started to beep . Disconnected it from power source and removed battery to silence it. Please advise how to

Two things I would suggest: 1. make certain the battery you are using is good; consider using 9V lithium instead of alkaline as they will likely last much longer and perform better 2. ensure you are following all of the instructions for battery replacement correctly; many smoke alarms and detectors have labels on the back with replacement instructions that specify leaving the old battery out for a minimum length of time, anywhere from about 10 to 60 sec; failure to follow this will often result in erroneous low battery indications. Of course, if the unit is over 10 years old, it must be replaced per NFPA72, the national fire code.

How do I kow if there is a battery? I don't see one

Most units being made today have a battery backup. If the battery compartment is not plainly visible from the outside it could be underneath (also the location of the model number and date code). Most smoke/co alarms are removed from their mounted bases by turning counterclockwise, usually about 1/8 of a turn. If the device is more than 10 years old it (the entire unit) must be replaced per the National Fire Code, NFPA72. Otherwise, you my find the opening for the battery underneath as well. There are a few that do not have a battery at all. To be sure, locate the manufacturer and model number and check the appropriate website.

2 pcs. Installed all by the book but about every minute one of them gives a short loud peep.

Those alarms usually come with a cheap zinc carbon battery. This battery may already be weak especially if the alarm sat in a store for a long time. Try using a good alkaline or lithium 9 volt and see if that works.

My smoke alarms which are also hardwired into the electrical system, are going off for no reason every 5 minutes

Your smoke alarms may be hard-wired and also have a battery backup. If this is the case, the batteries may need to be changed. If there is no battery issue, then it may be that the alarms have aged out and simply need to be replaced. Regards, Joe
