We hooked up my laptop to our maxent plasma monitor/TV. It was working fine. I left for a short amount of time and when i returned, i lost picture. We have since discovered that we are able to get sound, but no picture.

as instructed, i turned off the monitor and waited for a good while before turning back on. There is still no picture.

When the cable box is turned on, we can hear audio - but there is still no picture. Part of the problem is we can not know what input we are on (besides from cable-AV1 because of sound) as there is no picture.

My guess is that when my computer went to "hibernate" it put the picture to "sleep" as well. This is only my educated guess.

Again, i want to be clear that it was working fine. We had the picture on the laptop and on the monitor (50" plasma Maxent HDTV monitor). I left the room for a while and upon my return we had lost picture to the monitor.

Is there perhaps a setting that I need to adjust on my laptop? Please advise...

you should state your operating system, vista has got some advance option when using external monitor. You should normally restart the pc while the tv is on and waiting for signal from pc.When it loads into bios you should get the display on your tv.Remember to make sure to enable pc input on tv and restart pc while tv is waiting for signal. This should solve this problem.

    Operating system is XP
how do you enable pc input on tv?

Try the FN-F4 key combo on your laptop. If this works then you'll need to poke around in your display settings and try to figure out what is causing the behavior and change it or simply live with hitting FN-F4 after it goes to sleep. Most likely, the TV is not responding quickly enough to the PC when it wakes up and it assumes that the external display is gone and goes back to internal. You could also lock your setting in to "mirror" and this would likely eliminate the problem.

If the above does not help, please let me know what type of cables are being used to connect the TV and laptop. This could be very useful information in troubleshooting the problem.

Hello. I can help you. First of all turn off the tv and the laptop. After two minutes turn on the monitor and the computer. Check on the tv, using the input button to be sure that you are designating the proper input connectioin for the computer. You should now be back up and running.

How do i hook regular cable to Maxent MX-42EPM20 42 in. EDTV Plasma Television

Hello,
Your Maxent MX-42EPM20 is not a TV (Television) it is a Plasma panel. The difference being your Panel does not a TV Tuner (no Coax jack or electronics relating to a tuner) Below is the spec sheet that shows this

You can use a cable box or a cheap Digital TV receiver. You can buy them at walmart, You need one with A/V out puts such as Component. Here is a link to one. This will give you a tuner.

Maxent MX42X3 42" plasma Monitor..

Are you sure that its the main A/Vboard coz it sounds like the main power supply issue to me. Anyways the mainboard is the large board usually located at the center of the tv. If you can remove the back cover of the tv and get me a high res picture of the tv I can mark the board for you.

Hooking up a Mac to tv

I ran into the same problem with my "50 maxent. The manual clearly states that mac resolutions are not supported. We won't let that stop us. Step one is to download switchresx. It's a simple utility that should allow you to define custom resolutions. http://www.madrau.com/ .
Step 2 is to download chicken of the VNC. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9517 . Once this is installed on a separate mac from the one you are trying to connect to the maxent take your mini and hook it up to the RGB port on the maxent and boot it up. Once this is done use chicken of the vnc to take control of of the mini with the other mac. Now you can change the resolution on the mini using switchresx which you installed on the mini earlier. In the case of the maxent you will need to set it to 1366x768 at 60 hz. If using another flat panel consult your user manual for the correct resolution. In my opinion there is no flat paned tv this should not work for.
Good luck!
