My sony cybershot dsc-w350 keeps turning itself on and off and reads system error

Hi,

The system error is displayed in the Camera when there is some internal malfunction or when the Lens in the Camera get stuck.
Try power resetting the Camera to check if it resolves the issue. To power reset the Camera, turn off the Camera and remove the battery pack. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Remain the Camera without power for 60 seconds and reinsert the battery.
If the issue persists, try Initializing the Camera. The Initialize option can be done only if the Menu of the Camera is accessible. To access Initialize select MENU-->SETTINGS-->MAIN SETTINGS-->INITIALIZE-->OK.
If the issue persists, service may be required.

Camera not working

The word ACCESS appears in the LCD and the digital camera does not respond. Solution
sp.gif sp.gif If the camera appears to freeze or lock and the word ACCESS is displayed in the LCD, then a problem has occurred during the reading or writing of data on the Memory Stick® media. This could be caused by the media, or the camera itself.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue.
  1. Perform a power reset on the camera.
  2. If the issue is not resolved, turn off the camera.
  3. Remove the Memory Stick® media from the camera.
  4. Clean the metal contacts on the Memory Stick media with a soft, dry cloth or clean pencil eraser.
  5. Reinsert the Memory Stick media into the camera.
  6. Turn on the camera.
  7. If the issue reoccurs, turn off the camera.
  8. Remove the Memory Stick media from the camera.
  9. Insert a different Memory Stick media.
  10. Turn on the camera. NOTE: If the issue does not occur with different Memory Stick media, the previous Memory Stick media may be faulty and should be discarded.
The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.

My brand new sony cybershot won't take photos - you can turn it on, but the lens just comes out three times and then goes back in the camera. You are then given a notification to turn it back off and then...

Check if the battery is fully charged.
Check if you're able access the Menu. If you are able to access the Menu, please select Initialize under Settings and Main Settings 1 Menu and press OK.
If the issue persists, perform the power reset by removing the Battery and pressing the power button continuously for one minute. Then, leave the power button and reinsert the Battery. If the issue still not resolved the Camera may require service.

Turn the power on and off again

I fixed this issue with my Sony Cybershot by gently (carefully) hitting the camera 3 times against a carpeted bench with the lens retracted and the camera turned off. It seems the lens gears were stuck. Now the camera works fine again.

- Take your battery out
- Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds
- Re enter your battery
- Voila.. it should work when you turn it on. Mine did.
