I believe you are talking about when the laptop boots to a black screen and it needs a password.

Outside of hacking software to boot from command line, there is one other thing you can get done.

All passwords require usually a cmos battery to be maintained. Even on a laptop. Have a qualified electronics technician jumper the laptop to drain all power from the battery and even in the cmos battery or any other one.

What this will do is actually wipe out the cmos information.

To be on the safe side, contact HP and ask them if they can create the BIOS boot disks on floppy. Also, see if you can get the recovery disks as well.

Then, in case that the BIOS is wiped from the system you will first load the BIOS boot disks on floppy into the laptop, then you will install the recovery disks for the laptop. The total cost will be maybe about 60 dollars, but it is the easiest method.

You'll have to reset everything in the BIOS configuration. You could check on youtube for possible support on how to open a dv1000.. remember this may void your warranty

  1. Open the computer's case
  2. Find the battery on the motherboard
  3. Remove the battery
  4. Wait a minute or so (to make sure that the m-board's compnents have powered down)
  5. Reinstall battery
  6. Close case
  7. Start the computer
  8. Go into the BIOS settings program
  9. Set up the BIOS
Some motherboards have a jumper on the board - a jumper which, when shorted will erase the BIOS settings

How to find my acer laptop that has been stolen

Not much hope.
You maybe lucky to find it in a pawn shop locally.
I suggest your nest laptop to enable a Power on Password and a hard disk password to secure your data against theft or lost BUT you need to keep these passwords in a safe place.

Got locked out of my laptop its asking for a password & i have never had one

The person who owned it before you has probably put a bios password in the computer locking you out. I strongly recommend you take it back to the pawn shop and get your money back, or the seller gets a hold of the customer to get the required information, because without it the laptop is useless to you.

Hey my gf bought a laptop from a pawn shop and it has a password on it she took it back and they sait too bad what can we do to crack it

If it's "New to You" then you won't need a password. Put a disc in with the same OS that's on it and boot from the Windows CD. Then just reinstall Windows and use the key that's on the label on the bottom of the laptop when it asks for it. There's a way to "Break" into Windows, but I cannot post it, for that would violate the law if it were a stolen laptop and you really were looking to break into someones files. The passwords are there for a reason. I suggest you make it your own with a Legitimate copy of Windows (or whatever OS you choose). If it's in a pawn shop, the data is probably all messed up anyways and will need to be re-installed.

Just bought a Eee PC 1000HA from a pawn shop, and when I charged it and turned it on, it goes to a bios screen that says at the bottom that the hard disk is locked. It ask's for user password or press ESC...

When buying things from a pawn shop, it is wise to check it out to see if it functions properly before you purchase it.
Hard disk passwords cannot be broken/hacked, and putting a new hard disk in the laptop may not work, this depends upon the BIOS password setup.
I suggest you try and return it and get a refund.
