probably because when on 12 volts , it works of a heater element and not a compressor --same as when it is on gas , it runs of a flame

Is there a trick to starting the Pyrox 400? Turned the fan on and press on low then repeatedly press the ignition pilot light, start to smell of gas after a minute. Won't start Help please

Is the ignition sparking? When you press and hold down the buttons, the ignition should be sparking at the centre electrode. At the same time when you hold the buttons down, the gas valve is manually held open to release the gas. The spark is then supposed to ignite the gas. Hold the knobs down for about 3 to 5 seconds after ignition and the gas valve will stay on. If it lights but the flame wont stay on, it could be anything from a partially blocked aeration port to a worn knob. When you push down on the knob, it is supposed to press down on an electromagnetic lock which keeps the gas valve open when the flame is burning. When the knob or shaft isn't pushing down enough, it doesn't keep the gas valve locked and the flame will go out as soon as you let the knob go.

The piglet lights up but when turning knob to turn on flame it lights up for 30seconds and then everything shuts off no piloted no flame

I am pretty sure you mean "the PILOT light", not the "piglet".

The condition you are describing is consistent with being near totally OUT OF FUEL (gas).

Refill the fuel tank, Oscar!

Relight combi pilot light?

These are designed not to light once the thermocouple fails.the thermocouple has a small wire that positions in to the pilot light which checks the pilot is on and keeps the gas governed.once the temperature drops it shuts off the gas to prevent a build up of gas in a room where a pilot light has gone out.this is why you need to hold the button in on reignition to allow the thermocouple to heat up so the gas keeps open.
Try to relight by turning on the gas ....pressing down and holding the button for at least 10 seconds whilst firing the piezo to ignite flame.do not release gas button for at least 10 seconds then slowly release.if the flame on the pilot will not stay alight....then it is likely the thermo has failed.try cleaning the metal wire that is above the pilot jet.still no joy then it needs replacing.hope my comment is of help...please vote.

The pilot light goes out. When I go to re-light the pilot and turn the temp for vacation to medium the flame goes out again.

The pilot light jet may have got a little bit of dirt or grit in it which is preventing it from keeping alight. Try probing the jet with a fine piece of wire to see it the blockage can be dislodged. You may have to unscrew the jet to clear it by blowing air through it. Make sure gas is turned off first before removing any parts.

The pilot light also has a thermocouple that allows gas to the pilot light while the flame is burning. If flame goes out it shuts gas off to the pilot jet. The thermocouple is bypassed by a switch during the initial ignition and once the thermocouple warms up after a minute or two of holding in the bypass switch, it should maintain the pilot. If, after cleaning, the pilot light keeps going out, it would seem that your thermocouple is faulty and needs to be replaced

My pilot light went out and when I try to relight it, the flame will light when I press down on the red button by the gas control valve. I hold it down for about a minute like the instructions say but when...

Hi you will need to replace the thermocouple. This is the copper tube that screws in to the gas valve and goes back and mounts along side of the pilot. Most will pull straight out. When they go out, the pilot will light when you hold the red button down, but as soon as you release it off it goes. You can but this thermocouple at any hardware store. They come in different lengths, But I would get a 36" one. They will coil up so they wont be in the way. Its better to have a longer one then one that's to short. Make sure the tip is in the flame, or it will do the same thing. It has to get very hot to keep and produce milivolts to keep it on.Please don't forget to rate me on this as I know you will be kind. This will solve your problem for sure.

AFTER LIGHTING MY RICHMOND 6G40-36F1 WATER HEATER IT LIGHT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THE FLAME AND THE PILOT LIGHT GOES OUT. WHAT CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN?

There is air in the gas line. The best way to get the air out, is with the gas on, loosen the nut that attaches to the gas valve and make sure you can smell a little gas, then reattach the gas line, making sure everything is tight, and then relight the pilot making sure to hold the pilot light button down for at least 1 minute. My propane fireplace pilot light wont stay lighted help

Most gas valves have a flame sensor, which is a metal bulb at the end of a wire. The pilot light heats this bulb, and the valve stays open because there's a flame. If the flame has been out, you'll need to hold down the pilot light button for as much as two minutes after lighting the flame to allow the flame to heat the flame sensor up enough to keep supplying gas when you release the button.
