Be sure to install a brand new needle.
Remove the top thread.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Verify the thread path is correct.
Set the upper tension to the midway point (this may need to be tweaked for your particular machine).

If the top thread is still breaking, you may need to clean the tension disk. Remove the top thread. RAISE the presser foot, set the top tension to as loose as possible, dip a length of perl cotton in rubbinb alcohol (squeeze out the excess), then gently pull the perl cotton DOWN through the tension disks a couple of times.

The follow the instructions at the beginning to rethread your machine.

If still having problems, you may need to take it for service.

How do I stop my tread from popping on my Brother (17 stich) sewing machine?

Breaking thread? Presumably the top thread? AVOID old or bargain bin threads. The upper tension is too tight or the thread is not properly seated in the tension disk, the needle is defective or the needle, needle eye/scarf is not the best choice for the fabric/thread being used, there may be a snag in the bobbin area that is catching the thread. Make sure the thread is not catching on the spool's thread notch.

Singer advance7422 burst the tread

When you thread the top do it with the foot in the up position. As you thread you should notice the ease of movement through the tension, holes, etc. If you come to a point it is sticking, check why. The tension could be a problem. Anyway, if you don't seem to have a problem hear then put your foot down. Pull on the thread to see if it is stuck or not moving with an extreme amount of difficulty. You may need to lower the tension. A good starting point is 3. I expect your tension is the problem. If it is still the problem then lower the bobbin tension slightly. By the time you finish the knot should be in the middle of the fabric. Sometimes there is one more problem It is the thread is poor quality and is unravelling in the needle hole. Observe this closely as you sew. You know what to do if this is the problem.

How do I adjust the tension on my Singer 621B model I have had it for 20 years and the tread breaks every time I try to sew with it?

Put the top tension on 3. The bottom bobbin carrier remove. The little plate on the carrier has a screw to tighten and loosen for the bottom tension. Allow the thread to drop the carrier about two inches from your hand and move up and down lightly. The carrier should extend slightly when you do this. If it doesn't do it then loosen. If it does it too far then tighten. Make sure that your bobbin is rotating counterclockwise. The top may have to be adjusted by the fabric you are sewing but three is a good start.

How do I fix top tread breakage on a white model 935

The top thread breaks

1. the needle thread is not threaded properly

2. The needle thread tension is to tight

3. The needle is bent or blunt

4. The needle is incorrectly inserted

5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew

6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing

7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

8. Try a different spool or cone of thread

I have an husqvarna Viking mega quilter18x8 with the imperial frame. I am having problems with the tension and the tread keeps breakingms with. The tension and the tread keeps breaking. HELP!!

If the thread breaks at the needle and is feeding smoothly from the spool, you may have the tension too high. It is impossible to say what the setting should be because the knob rotates all the way around several times. Loosen it off until you see needle thread pull to the back of the quilt, then tighten until it just balances the interlocking of the stitch in the fabric. Test with little swirls, that's most likely to pull needle thread to back. Also, check that the needle is properly installed and that the hook to needle timing and clearance are good.Nesting of thread underneath usually happens if the foot lifter is left up or the tread is not fully in the disks of the tension unit.
