Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

What would cause a grey area across the center of a led tv? It is approx 1/3 of the screen in the middle. Could it be the LED strips in the center or would it more likely be the power supply? Thanks!

It is a 42 inch Vizio, model# E420-A0

Are you under warranty? Chances are real good that you need the signal board....the one with the rca jacks and rf connectors. This may be pricey $$$$$ but will surely repair the problem.

SOURCE: 42" AWA LED LCD TV,

HI:
This maybe due to a faulty T-Con board, this is what I would replace first, since this is the mose inexpensive part in the set, if this does not solve you problem then it is possible that your panel is odefective and needs replacing, if so then it is cheaper to buy a new television.

SOURCE: 4 year old vizio 42 inch tv lcd. While watching

Maybe a power supply or related issue but at 4 years of age the set has reached its life span----parts will be hard or impossible to find.

If you got four years I would retire it and recycle it and then replace it.

Hi ,
try swapping the screen with another one to just see if it is behaving the same, because some times the screen circuitry or the led screen could be damaged .

good luck buddy

I have an insignia tv ns-lcd42hd-09. If I have no backlights and cannot see the menu with a flashlight does it still mean the inverter is bad or is it the t-con or main board.

That brand TV will not display anything on the screen if the backlight is burned out. Depending on how much you paid for it, you might come out better just replacing it that repairing it. The backlight stretches the length of the screen and it only takes one diode to go out to cause the whole TV to go out. If you are a DIY person, know you will be dealing with 50-70 screws. NOT counting the plastic mounting screws for the front and back bezel.

The other kicker is the availability of the actual part. The LED strip used for the backlight WAS a proprietary part and is supposedly available only thru the manufacturer. However, it is possible to replace it with a modified strip from strip LED lighting, a little soldering, and a little bit of know-how. This will void the warranty, but, if it fixes your TV for actual pennies on the dollar, you cut out the middle man by doing the work yourself, you're looking at about $50 for parts.

Hope this helps. http://www.indoffofficefurniture.com/led-retrofit

LG model 47LN5700-UH LED TV. There is a single thin vertical line on the screen. I have changed the LED/Power Supply board and LED strips. What might be causing the vertical line?

You have wasted your time and money. The LED power supply and LED strips are only the backlighting. The only thing that might fix is a situation where you have a blank screen with the sound working.

If you don't know what you're doing, DON'T OPEN THE TV UP TO FIX IT, THERE ARE HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES ON THE POWER SUPPLY BOARD, EVEN WEEKS AFTER THE TV IS UNPLUGGED!

If you don't know how to do it yourself, find some local Electronic repair shops, get quotes, try to find reviews on the shops.

Vizio e470i-ao led tv faded black bar thru middle of screen. still bright top and bottom, was told backlight was the issue. wwhere do i find the parts and the how to?

Hi Tala,
I appreciate your DIY approach, but the job is very delicate, risky and needs high level of proficiency. The screen is lit by several strips of LEDs. In your case probably the middle row of LEDs has failed. You have to open apart the LCD module to find out what kind of LED strips they have used and there is every chance of damaging the delicate LCD screen or the SHEET as they call it. Better hand over the job to someone who can do it.
Good luck.

The TV leds arent working

it should be relatively easy to test if you can get at the back of the LED board first Identify if they are series or parallel wired if they are series, if parallel wired there is full voltage across them all and a single burnt out led isn't the issue ( a burned trace could be depending on location). HOWEVER, the most likely problem is the LED driver, as this varies the brightness of the leds in relationship to the brightness setting of the TV. this is usually a part of another circuit.

Samsung led TV un60es8000 dark blotchy area on the upper right of screen. Most noticeable on greys, blues and blacks. The picture attached is the color most responsive to this issue (dark grey). Lighter...

This is caused by one of two things; a bad LED grouping (most common cause) either because the LEDs are bad or the power distributor fuse is blown and the group isn't getting power from the power supply unit. Or two: bad pixel group. But I'd check your backlight power supply for bad connections, blown fuses, or check your led groups for bad leds.

Sony KDL 46HX820 turns on, then off and red light blinks four times.

Re: Bravia KDL46EX720. Red LED blinks 4 times and TV wont turn on. What is the problem?

Do a Power Reset.

1. Turn off the TV.
2. Unplug the power cord of the TV from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the TV remain without power for 60 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. (If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.)
5. Turn on the TV.

If the issue still persists after performing power reset, that may be an indication that the TV needs service. You may refer to this link to locate the nearest Sony authorized service center in your area.

Luxor lux0140001B/01 1 week old picture has top half with a grey see through screen

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following
symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can
examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life
of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
