Television companies block out recording on the higher channels, they want you to pay for them and not be able to record them. I use to install for Charter Communications Cable and thats what they did

I have the emerson vcr model ev467 and it has hardly been used. Went to record a tv program today and when i went to play back the tape, nothing was on it. All indicators were on, so i thought it was...

do you have a cable box connected. If you do you have to tell the vcr to record on channel 3 or 4 (whichever you have the tv tune to regularly) then put the cable box on the channel you want to record the show on

Some channels on my tv are dark and tinted orange, I used the menu button to display the menue and scrolled down to picture but I did not know how to select picture.

Hello
Adjust colour control to zero, and check for a pure black/white picture. Adjust contrast and brightness control to minimum and check whether the picture goes completly off or a slight picture prevails. If the picture goes out when you turn down brightness control to 1/3 position, that is about 20 points, your TVs screen voltage is very low, and it can be adjustable. If the picture does not go out and more brightness prevails, screen voltage is high. If the screen voltage is high, there will be some fine lines across the screen at about an inch apart; on the whole screen from top to bottom.
Screen voltage adjustment is critical for the clarity of the picture. If it is low, no proper colour will be dispayed. If it is high, it is harmful to both picture tube and your eyes.
Never try to adjust it without proper knowledge about it. The screen control can be located alongwith the LOT [Line Output Transformer], of your tv. There will have two adjustable controls there, one is for Focus, and the other is for Screen. Both are interactive, that is adjusting one will effect an other.

I have an Emerson VCR Model EWV404, but don't have the manual. Is there a way to adjust the tracking? I have squiggley lines, but only with some tapes.

According to the Emerson VCR manual, during PLAY mode adjust tracking by pressing the CHANNEL buttons. It could be bad tapes also.

Distortion sound

turn down the gain at the mic pre, first plug in the mic then put the channel fader at optimum level, the 0 mark, then use the mic gain adjustment at the mic pre to set the level on the channel/ input meter, if recording using a digital platform keep the level as high as possible without going into red at all on the channel/ input meter, use the master fader to adjust listening volume and use the channel fader to make fine adjustments if needed but the point is to primarily use the mic gain knob to adjust the input level. If you are recording a loud instrument or cabinet with it then you may want to use the pad on the mic or the pad on the console/ mixer if after going through the above steps the level at input is still too hot, should be a switch on the mic or console wich says pad, if the mic has one then use the one on the mic instead of the one on console.
