Question about LG Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a question about the Power Supply Board in a LG 32LN530B-UA that does not have picture or sound. I do not appear to have all the voltages on the P201 connector that I should.

So did you check out the various components involved in creating the missing voltages? Transformers, caps, diodes, transistors, etc. Did you get the schematic for the power supply and scope it out?

Things do not just fix themselves - you have to check and probe for clues.

Testimonial: "What I was not able to include in my 200 character limit initial question is that I just purchased the Power, Main and T-Con Boards from Shop Jimmy. Replace all 3. I don't want to start removing parts and testing as they are still under warranty. My question was 'Should I have all voltages on the PS board all the time (3.5V, 12V and 24V) or do some of those get triggered by the Main Power being powered up?'"

{Power supply voltages are a constant entity and in many cases highly regulated because many circuits are very exacting regarding power requirements and have tight tolerances..

If you check out the schematic you will notice that the power supply is usually turned on by a relay that is in the standby mode ready to receive your "on" signal. That tells you that there is a small bypass on the line coming in to feed a low voltage board that powers the remote control circuits and when it gets the power on signal it powers the relay and THEN the main supply is turned on and then all the voltages should be appearing. With everything connected, in a quiet environment, push the on button on remote or on the set. Immediately, you should hear a click which activates the relay and turns on the power supply. If you do not hear that click, the relay is not being powered and the main PS is not being turned on. I had the exact same issue just this week with a high end 400 cd changer that was totally deado so I knew it was a PS issue. I checked the schematic and found a secondary low voltage transformer that powered the low voltage circuits and main relay. On a hunch I measured the secondary winding of that transformer for continuity. It was good. But when I tested the primary, it was OPEN!!!!!!!! If you have a similar situation and your secondary transformer is fubar, you will have a totally dead set !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

Can you help determine what the problem may be with a 32" LG TV that has no picture ? We have a model 32LN530B-UA. s/n 308MXVW8E535 SVC code 32LN530B-UA.BUSYLWM

The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

Before spending more money on boards, measure the voltages that are there. If ok, it's not power supply.

Lg mod 26lg30-ua picture is too dark and brightness adjustmen does not help

I suspect that you have a backlight issue. The backlight is not getting sufficient voltage usually due to a malfunction of the 12V line on the power supply board of the tv or a faulty backlight inverter board. This issue cannot be narrowed down any further without testing it. So if you are handy at fixing electronics stuff and know how to use a multimeter then let me know and I will guide you.
