This link has the instructions on how to fix this problem and other similar problems. You have nothing to lose, so I recommend that you try it.

http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html

This works with the two other colors, blue and green also. Not all models of Sony Projection TVs have the red, green, and blue pots in the same order as the picture that is listed on this link, so you may want to google search for your model's service manual. The service manual can also help you be able to remove the cover for your particular model of TV. I was able to find the service manual for my model, and sure enough, the order of the pots are reversed on mine, so I would have been adjusting the wrong color. Read all of the comments on this link too, because you can find other helpful tips and may even find someone with the same model of TV as you that gives you more specific instructions.

I hope this helps you!
Fare well. :)

PLEASE POST MODEL # for an accurate response!
But it sounds like a convergence problem.

I'm having a problem with the color green being distorted on my TV. Is this a color tube issue, bulb issue, lamp issue?

This is a picture tube type TV. No lamp.
You don't describe the distortion.
A colour green picture that is twisted and shifted away from the other colours is a convergence problem. see Projection TV Convergence on this site.
If the green is smeared, out of focus, larger than the other colours like a halo around objects, things like that, it is the green picture tube. Sony has discontinued most of the picture tubes so you may not be able to get this fixed.

If the lines are slightly curved and stationary on about 2/3 of the screen its either the Blue CRT or the Blue CRT drive board which is having the problem.

Tv gone green/blue and sometimes red in top right corner

If you have a Sony rear projection LCD TV then you have a failing optics block. LCD TV's are not affected by external magnets like CRT TV's were. The optics block issue will only get worse and needs to be repaired by a technician.

Problem with a colour display on Hisense tv

If your picures are all purple it means that the green colour is missing. TV colour is made up by mixing Red, Green & Blue. Removing Green leaving Red & Blue makes purple. Study the green colour circuit for a fault and confirm that the green gun inside the tube is working.

Hi Guys

Your problem here has to do with the amount of aging that happens to the three colour tubes - red, green and blue.

Blue actually ages slower than red and green. What actually happens is the green tube deteriorates and due to green being the predominant colour for brightness causes the blue tube`s flyback lines to appear - especially when switching between inputs or when the video is blanked.

No replacing the blue tube will not solve your problem as the tube is actually the best one of the three.

As someone mentioned there is a way to adjust this by removing the speaker grill assembly in front of the set. Doing the service mode adjustment with the remote is not the right way to solve the problem - you would be adjusting the colour gain and off-set values and would seriously be compromising the white balance of the set.

On the left hand side behind the speaker cover you will see a black square block with six adjustment points. Look for the one marked SCR BLUE, Switch the set to a unused input so the blue lines become visible. Now adjust the BLUE point counter clockwise until the lines disappear. A small adjustment should do it, Switch back to a picture and make sure the whites are still white.

This should sort your problem. I would however suggest asking a Sony service centre to do this for you. This is a dangerous thing to do as you will be working close to the 35Kv supply the the anodes of the three tubes.

I hope this answers your question.

Goo luck.
