Open Question

I have two Benzomatic Pencil torches. One is spraying fuel back out as soon as fill it. The other is suddenly producing large flames too high to use.

It is not clear what type of lance or nozzel you have. You said that the machine works fine with the circulating water jet(the turbo). So it seems the machine is fine. I do sometimes service variable nozzels and variable lances. But the best solution is to replace nozzels and variable nozzles and lances with new ones. Regarding the fan spray setting it could have no pressure because it might be in the chemical setting. The chemical setting lets out a fan shape flow of water, but with less pressure. The chemical system only works on low pressure in domestic washers, that is why it needs a low pressure flat spray. The pencil jet has 2 jets comming out because if it is a lance or nozzel with ball bearings, these ball bearings must have stuck in a wrong position. Also 2 jets can come out, due to a damaged nozzel hole.
Altogether, the best advice is to buy a new nozzel or lance...which ever your machine uses. All Karcher machines have their own specific nozzels, lances and high pressure hoses. You cannot change these from one model to another.

look there is an air vent from the tank to the top of the hose if that is clog the air try to come out same way than the gas is going in check the vent hose

The problem you're experiencing may be the result of a clogged air intake valve on the burner or the burner has rusted out. In either case, you will need to turn the unit OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank and remove the tank. This way you can safely dismantle the top of the heater to have access to the burner and the pilot assembly. If you need to lay the entire heater down to work on it, be sure to chock the base so that it won't roll around, while you're checking and cleaning the burner and pilot assembly. A shop vac (if you have one) with a hose and brush attachment works well in cleaning the burner. Canned compress air with a straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with) will help to blow out the burner and the pilot assembly.

Try turning the valve down or towards the off position. It may take some fine adjusting to get it just right.

Too much gas! Turn it down and check that nothing is blocking the airways.

I use my benzomatic to fire metal clay and when it ran out of gas I refilled it and it hasn't worked since. I thoight maybe I over filled it ot tried to use it to soon after filling so I let it sit for...


Tell us more what model benzomatic, if the valve works, do you hear gas, etc.?
Perhaps there was some splatter from the metal clay you were heating, and it become plugged?

Torch will only light when oxygen tank is off. Gas is coming out with either valve open. When oxygen tank is on, flame goes out. Thank you for any assistance, knowledge you may provide. Tim O'Brien


Is the flame you are getting a carbonising flame? ie. is there a lot of soot in the flame? It sounds like your oxygen regulator is faulty and not regulating, blowing out your flame as soon as you open the oxygen bottle. The acetylene side seems to be ok but have the oxygen regulator overhauled.

Several new torch lighter, filled with butane, has spark, wont light.


adjust the fuel output , it is easiest to do by holding the button down while lighting the flame with a seperate lighter and then setting the flame on the lighter that does not ignite proper, also take into account that the temperature of the lighter by being held in your hand for a while or by being in your pocket can have a great effect on the pressure of the buttane being expelled.

Thats not the most info filled post ever.

I assume you mean you have a car that doesnt start...and you have verified spark, and you pushed the schrader and no gas is in the fuel rail when cranking? ANd maybe even you sprayed some quik start or carb spray into the air filter tube then cranked it and it fired right up and ran a few seconds and stalled after the spray ran out?

If you are REASONABLY confident of all that, GMs of that era are notorious for sudden fuel pump failures. The checks should involve voltage tests, circuit verification, and current ramp testing with a scope before you go ordering a 300 dollar fuel module...
However you COULD take a large hammer...BANG FAIRLY HARD on the gas tank while someone else cranks the engine, see if it starts. If it does, this is almost conclusive proof of a fuel pump problem. DONT DRIVE IT, it may stall again soon or likely fail to restart(Especially if its a VORTEC engine!). If the banging DOESNT make it start, it still COULD be the fuel pump...but it could also be other things that require more testing...and since your info and data is nonexistant...thats all the sound advice I can give you for now without some test data and vehicle and conditions info./

The heater ran out of fuel, when i turned it back on it popped.


it would probably be your igniter. it is probably not producing a spark

Burns unevenly and smokes


try emptying your heater of fuel,and lighting it letting burn for several hours. This will burn all of the deposits off of the wick. Make sure your heater is outside when you do this. when done lower the wick,fill with fuel,and let the wick soak for fifteen minutes before lighting.If this doesn't work try brushing the top of the wick a light brush of some sort and light.If still no luck,change the wick.
