SOURCE: Thermal Shutdown

first, try to check the heatsink of the processor if it is full of dust and the air flow from the processor fun cannot penetrate to the processor.
second, double check the brackets that holds the heatsink to the motherboard, bcoz in most cases for socket 478, those bracket will easily get cracked due to aging, the reason the heatsink will not totally hit the processor.
third, remove the thermal pad on the heatsink and replace new one.
if you're done with the above mentioned, and still the same problem exist, may be there is something wrong with the sensor of the motherboard the reason it registered a wrond temp of the processor, but this cases rarely happens, but still it does.

SOURCE: Fan Malfunction??

Sounds like a heat issue, pop the side of your case open and turn on the PC, are there fans not moving? Take a close look at your processor fan if there is one.

SOURCE: OVER HEATING

Hi,

Two possibilities:

  • the CPU is really overheating; and/or
  • the motherboard is falsely sensing high temp.
Corrective measure for an overheating CPU would be:
  • clean, re-lubricate or replace the fan;
  • clean or refit the heatsink. If it is overclocked, you may need a better heatsink.
If the CPU is not really heating up abd the motherboard is sensing erroneous temp readings, then the problem may be with:
  • BIOS version, try to flash and update the BIOS; and/or
  • check the temp probe underneath the CPU, it may need cleaning or slightly bending away from contact.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: my laptop acer aspire5920 is not shutting down

Hi dear,
Create Icons for Shutdown and Reboot If you find it annoying to access the Start Menu for shutting down or rebooting the computer, create a shutdown and reboot icon for the desktop.
Desktop Shutdown Icon Right click on the desktop
Click [New] [Shortcut] to open the Create Shortcut Wizard
Type [shutdown -s -t 00] without the brackets.
Click [Next] and type a descriptive name of your choosing for the shortcut
Click [Finish]
Add a bit of class to the shortcut by assigning it a custom icon. Right click the shortcut, click [Properties] and select the [Shortcut] tab. Click [Change Icon] and select from the icons that are displayed.
Desktop Reboot Icon Right click on the desktop
Click [New] [Shortcut] to open the Create Shortcut Wizard
Type [shutdown -r -t 00] without the brackets.
A Final Note: If you happen to be as fanatical as I am about having nothing on the desktop, drag the new icons into the Quick Launch area of the Taskbar.

then use it.

if not resolve it

then use following step ;-

click on start then go to RUN and type SFC /SCANNOW
press enter
this command recover all windows lost files, if it will ask windows CD then enter the windows disk.

bye take care
good luck

My tablet keeps shutting down. Says thermal shut down. How can I fix this problem? It isn't even 3months old and won't stay on for more than 2 or 3 minutes.

Nextbooks do this when playing intensive games. They just aren't up to the demand on the CPU. Unless you were clearly warned about ths issue I'd say it is a warranty claim. Try to swap it for a games -capable brand.

Nextbook tablet resets upon full shutdown

The problem could be that you are pressing down the power button and the volume button at the same time when you shut down. That will cause an android tablet to reset itself. There may be an issue with the power shut off button.

Unexpected shut down

Good chances this is a thermal shutdown. if this is the case, the computer is shutting off to protect itself from permanent damage. if your OS is old enough (Snow leopard, I think) then the system logs show what caused the shutdown. it will give a number. anything other than a 0 or a 1 are bad. if I recall correctly 1, 5, 13 are thermal shutdowns. Newer OS's don't seem to show these codes. and Apple does not publish their meanings.

My laptop Sony Vaio CS 320J is shutting down with out any notice(not proper shut down but poweroff while running) and not booting again for @ least 2 mins. recently this issue started and this is...

Remove the bottom pan to expose the cooling fan, clean all dirt out of the heat sink and fins, and clean fan, next remove the heat sink to expose the processor ic, remove the old thermal grease with rubbing alcohol, and apply fresh thermal conductive compound to the heat sink and processor, "not to much! just enough to cover the critical areas and assemble. In most cases this will solve the shutdown problem.

The computer shuts down after 10 to 30 min..I have already change the fan.

When computers shut down like this they are getting the signal from the motherboard. This is most likely a thermal shutdown signal from the processor. When you changed the fan, did you clean the processor off and apply a small thin layer of thermal paste? The processor may not be cooling properly or the motherboard is getting a bad signal from the processor's thermal circuit. Try new thermal paste on the processor and then go through the board again and make sure everything is in its place. Also, leave the side panel off and see if the system stays running, this will aid in the cooling. Let us know if it works, if not we may have more ideas to help.

Acer travelmate 2420

It could also be the CPU "heat sensor" causing a "thermal" shutdown.
Try a hairdryer on cold blow, and point it in where the CPU cooler is!

see does the laptop stay on longer. Thermal paste dosen't usualy "go" unless the heat sink has be detached from the CPU.

I think as you say either the fan or I think the heat sensor.
