Hi, I was having a problem with my Flybook in that the screen would go dark but the computer was still on. It would work if I plugged in an external monitor. I finally went to the advanced portion of the video display and the troubleshooting tab and shut down all acceleration which seems to have fixed the problem but I tried to get back to the advanced area and now the button is disabled. I would like to get back in to set video acceleration levels so they are not completely off - how do I get back in now that the button is disabled?

Uninstalling the drivers and then installing them again should return everything to default values.

so you can uninstall the software / drivers from start -> control panel -> uninstall programs / add or remove programs, find it from the list and uninstall. if noting related is on the listen then icnore this step and go forward to the next one.

on your desktop or on your start menu, right click on my computer or "computer" click on manage from the menu that comes up.

on the computer management window on the left side, click on device manager, then see on the right side, video adapters or display adapters or similiar, open it up from the + next to it, see your video adapter there? Right click on it and uninstall.

make sure all video adapters (most likely just one) are uninstalled, then restart the computer, it should start up in basic video settings and you may have to get the drivers for the video card from the makers website (I can look them up if you send me the brand and model of the laptop)

All the settings will return to normals and the hardware acceleration should be turned to full, and you should be able to adjust it again.

HP Compaq 2710p: External monitor does not display anything

Hi,

The display properties indicate the hardware is working, so it's likely just a setting.

On HP/Compaq models you will see a picture, usually on the F4 key that looks like a screen with two lines beside it.

You need to hold down the Fn key(bottom left) and then push the F4 key at the same time to cycle between LCD, external or both.
If it is a newer model, a menu will pop up when you do this asking if you want to duplicate the LCD on the external, switch to the external or extend the desktop onto the external. Select the appropriate setting or continue holding down Fn while pressing F4 to cycle between the settings to the one you want.

If you have re-installed the computer at some point with anything other than the factory recovery set this may not work and I will have to give you a longer set of instructions.

If this works please rate this as fixed, if not reply back and indicate what version of windows you're using and I will post the instructions for the "long" way.

Hp tablet pc has a blank screen

You're first step should be to plug an external monitor to it to make sure the video card still works. In all likelyhood, the video inverter (located behind the bezel for the screen) went bad and needs to be replaced, but it's good to know whether or not the computer itself is still putting out video

Laptop Screen Dull

Look a the screen real close, if you see a faint dark version of the image, this could be a backlight issue, otherwise a screen cable or a logic board issue. Backlight repairs are somewhat difficult. As much as I would like to be able to tell you a quickfix that will solve backlight the problem, it's a pretty arduous repair that requires 1-2 hours for a trained person. It's feasible to do it yourself if you're tech savy, but you'll most likely have to google for guides that show you exactly how to replace the backlight step by step. Check on how to take the screen apart and make sure inverter is still connected properly. If so, you have a backlight issue. I work for Computer Repair NYC and i have to fix this problem a lot, it's so easy to break the lightbulb in the process.
