How many yards in a ton?

As a rule of thumb, you can multiply the cubic yards by a factor of 1.4 to get tons. But remember, yards is a measure of volume where tons is a measure of weight. Thus, depending upon the material being calculated, true weight can vary greatly. Obviously a yard of wet sand will weigh far more than a yard of dry sand, as water is more dense and has more weight than the sand it displaces in the volume. Large crush stone may weigh far less than pea gravel for the same volume as there is less air gap around the gravel than there is around the large crush. If you need a true weight of a yard of some material, you would have to know its weight in a particular volume and then calculate from that value.

How many yards are in one ton?

One is a measurement of length, the other is a measure of weight.

however, you might be referring to 'Cubic Yards'?

depends upon the rock type and how fine it is, but one reference notes that one cubic foot of gravel typically weighs about 100 pounds.
So 1 ton has 2000/100 or 20 cubic feet of gravel. A cubic yard is 3x3x3 = 27 cubic feet to the cubic yard
Answer is 20/27 or 0.74 cu yard. I'd round that to 3/4 cubic yard.

I am digging a 600 cubic foot drywell - with one inch gravel how many tons of gravel will I need to order to fill this drywell ?

600 cubic feet is16,99 cubic meters. It is actually depending of the specific mass of the gravel but a good assumption is that one cubic meter of gravel will weight more or less 1.5 ton. Therefor I don't think that that contractor did you in on this deal. In fact he might have undercharged you or he filled the hole initially with something else and put some gravel on top as last layer.

Yards in a pile of gravel

There are 27 cubic feet in one yard. IF your estimate of pile size is correct, you have 720 cubic feet witch is 26 yards.

The low range light has come on its stuck on 4x4 and is slowing my truck down how do i fix this

you cannot run your truck normally in 4x4 low!!!! the low is designed to go slow slow.try shifting into neutral gear on column tap the high 4x4 then shift to reverse, back up 15feet then shift to drive.it should go into high 4x4 then if you want to go back to 2wheel high shift to neutral tap the 4x4 high until the light goes off, shift to reverse and back up 15feet then shift to drive and the 4wheel drive lights should all be off. then you'll be in 2x2 rear wheel drive. thank you for choosing fixya.com
