SOURCE: Volume on my Toshiba TV 32AV502U goes up on its

First off, take the batteries out of your remote to see if it is a problem with your remote, if it is I would buy a new universal remote and try that. If none of this works then the problem is with your tv itself. Either the volume button on the tv is broken and works on its own, or the tv is having programming errors and you will need to have it fixed.

My envision model L32W961 volume goes from normal volume to blasting then back to normal. it started after lighning hit a tree beside the house.

Anytime and electrical storm is close enough to hit a tree, it sends all types of energy through everything. Did you have a surge protector on the TV? Sound to me like the TV has internal damage and needs repair or replacement. Have you tried to simply unplug the TV and wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. This sometimes will reset the microprocessor.

Check your remote batteries.

I had a TV remote that would do some weird things when the batteries were dying, like the problems you describe.

Volume on my TV goes down to zero without me touching the remote. JVC- Any suggestions?

There maybe another signal coming from somewhere causing the problem. Try blocking the IR sensor in front of the TV. If that stops it, your next step is finding the source.
If blocking the sensor doesn't work, check out the buttons on the TV itself. It may have a sticky or damaged button.
The volume down button may have went bad.

Won't respond to volume or channel changes red light blinks 20x's when turned off.

It's definitely a firmware problem. I called Panasonic and they were very polite about the entire situation and sent me a SD card with the firmware update. If you don't have time and you're tired of listening to tv at the same volume there is a way to do a hard reset.

I figured that unplugging the unit would do this, but there is one other step that you have to do to ensure that this works.

Generally the power button on the tv is always in the "on" position, this is what allows the remote to work. In order to do a hard reset the on/off button must be in the off position. Make sure that is off, then unplug the unit, let it sit there for a minute or two and plug it back in. If the tv comes back on as soon as you plug it back into the wall/powerstrip then the button was not in the off position.

This isn't the best fix, you'll still need to get the firmware update but it will at least give you the ability to use your tv normally....well until it decides to randomly lock up on you again and you have to do this all over.

When the screen goes blank, hit any remote function that will show up on the screen-like volume bar. If the display is missing as well, then you have a tv problem. If the volume display is there when the tv picture is not, you may require a software upgrade.
