Question about Denon AVR-2105 Receiver

1 Answer

I just purchased a Denon AVR1910 and have 2 problems with it: 1. Despite switching the output speakers to TV when the TV is operating, the unit will not save this function. If I switch to the Blu Ray player and then back to the Sat/CBL input, the picture comes back, but with no sound. To fix it I have to go into the menu and reselect TV speaker output every time (although TV will already appear to be selected on the menu). How can I set it so that the Sat / CBL audio input goes through the TV speakers every time it is switched on? 2. I have just two stereo speakers (for the moment) that I want to hook up to the receiver so that I can play my iPod through the receiver and into those speakers. However, whatever speaker jacks on the back of the receiver I connect the speakers to, I cannot get any kind of sound out of the speakers. I know they work and I have checked the polarity of the connections. Have I not set the receiver correctly, or is it just not working?

About the first problem, to store a default source use the Source Select button, and then press the appropriate Quick Select button to store the desired source in memory.

Follow instructions at page 20 on the manual.

About the second question, ensure that the speakers have at least 4 ohms impedance. Connect the two speakers using the b amp connection in the panel with written front. If that does not work, the speakers may not be compatible with bi-amp connection. Buy a pair of quality 6 ohms speakers.

Follow instructions at page 15 of the user manual here.

Check sound from headphones. These models have been known to have bad headphone jacks that make the unit think there are headphones plugged in even when there isn't. Sometimes just plugging in headphones and unplugging them will fix it for a while.

avatar7.jpgcurt, I bought this Denon AVR 1611 and I have HD cable. If you have cable you can set it up two ways. First way (the way I have it) is to get a switch box with 2 HDMI
out (mine has 4 inputs and 2 outputs) and maybe 2-4 inputs. Put the cable from the wall in one of the switch box inputs. Now hears the cool thing. Put 1 of the outputs from the switch box to the Sat/Cable input on the 1611 then put the another output to your tvs HDMI input. This allows you to switch from the tv only output or the 1611 surround output without touching the switch box. The other way is to buy a converter from HDMI to VGA. The only thing here is that you would have to setup your sound through Aux in the front of the 1611..........Johnmoondancer@hotmail.com

The left side main output won't put out any sound on my Denon AVR-900.

connect your right speaker cable to the left output, if the sound comes out then the problem is on the left speaker ( the cable or the speaker itself ), but if still no sound, then the problem is on the power output of the unit, need to repair them

Denon AVF988 to power amp to whole house speakers

jbell302, Check both remote spkers for operation from the A spks output if good, switch B remote spks to A main connect & main A spks to the B remote connection on the Denon spks outputs . Most amp sources do not like different ohm spks types & different cable or spks A-B. lenghts, because this makes up to resistances problems, making the amp to work harder & understanding what is going on. THE AMPS PROTECTION CIRCUIT IS AT ALERT & TRIES TO BALANCE THE RESISTANCE VOLUME. Best move is to try use the same spks. lenght & a higher qauge wire; 12.14.18qa. to better balance the output volume! All matching spks. pairs would help alot as well!

Denon AVR-488 , problems routing cable box through receiver to tv

If you don't have one, the manual is available online: http://static.highspeedbackbone.net/pdf/AVR-488-OM-E_101.pdf

Suggestions:

1. Reset to default values. Per page 36 of manual: 1. Turn off Power. 2. Press Power while simultaneously pressing Speaker A and Speaker B. 3. Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the two buttons.

2. Make sure you have AM or FM radio reception. This makes sure your speakers, amps, etc are connected and working correctly.

3. Connect DVD player to HDMI 1 in and TV to HDMI Monitor Out.
Play a known good DVD that works when you connected the DVD directly to the TV via HDMI.

Select the DVD/HDP input on the receiver and play the DVD. You should not have to perform any input assignments, etc. It should just work, as HDMI1 is the default system setting for DVD.

4. If possible, obtain a STB with HDMI out & repeat step 3 using the HDMI2 TV/CBL input. Keeping the signal path all digital (HDMI) will give you a better picture quality than forcing several analog to digital conversions (component video is analog).

4A. To use the component connection, first test by connecting the STB directly to the TV via component video/audio if possible. This tests that the component video output of the STB is working correctly.

Next, remove direct connection and connect via receiver. Connect STB to receiver as shown on page 13 in manual. Connect component video output from STB to component video input #2 (tv/cbl) on receiver. Connect the STB audio output to the corresponding tv/cbl audio inputs.

Make sure nothing is connected to the HDMI2 input or to any other TV/CBL inputs (composite video, s-video, digital coax audio).

Now select the TV/CBL input and turn on the STB. You should have both audio & video.

I need to set up 4 pair of speakers, two zones. all ceiling mounted.

Okay! all ceiling mounted speakers. I don't know about 4 pair of speakers. Here is the load down:
First pair of ceiling speakers would be left and right front from speaker A or Main output behind your receiver.
Second ONE,but a pair would be connect to the center channel output as your center speaker.
Another pair would be connect to the surround sound left and right(NOT surround BACK left/right.)
Now,you have 5 channel setup at this point, you still need to purchase a power subwoofer to the SUB PRE-OUTPUT behind your Denon receiver.

For Zone two,you would need to connect your other pair of speakers to surround BACK left and right output.
Go to your Denon MENU button, depending on which model you have, some of them will have an on-screen display feature(you would need to have a composite video cable connect from the video output behind your receiver to the TV video input in order to use the on screen menu.)If not,you would have to it view on the front panel of the A/V receiver.
You need to read the detail on how to setup the video and audio as well as distance and DB for the receiver through the menu button.
I will be frank with you,if you are an amateur,Denon is NOT easy to be setup on the first time.

If your tv is putting out mono you will only get the center and sub speakers. This can be because the tv is only mono, or the output is set to mono in a menu of the tv. If you have cable or sat run the digital audio out to you receiver; it usually sound better that way anyhow. Set your receiver to Dolby mode for best sound.
