Was Windows Vista installed before? If so, it is impossible to install it. From personal experience,I do not even recommend the Dual Boot as it messes up the two system files and everything will eventually fail. If you had any other OS installed, you have to do an initial Back-up when you buy it. This is because the factory image includes all drivers necessary for your computer to run. If you try to install another OS than the one pre-installed, the drivers will be missing. There is also the fact that laptops tend to have SATA drives which are only detected with Windows XP PRO Service Pack 3. If you don't have this Version of XP, it won't detect your hard drive.
Hope this helps.

the fingerprint has its own driver on its own. this is what you do, if the computer come with any driver cd, insert it and install it from there otherwise, google it and you will get the driver from their official site. good luck

Want to install windows xp on a pre-installed vista

boot the computer with the xp cd in it. while it is booting up, press F11 or F12 which allows you to choose the boot option. Once you're able to choose that, choose CD-ROM, that will enable you to boot from the CD and you need to do a clean format.

I want drivers

This link is to the manufacturers website for your laptop drivers.
http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/acerdrivers.cfm

This second link is to the file that lists all the drivers and where to download them from.
http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/AcerDrivers/Aspire%205720Z.pdf?CFID=1452974&CFTOKEN=24871342

The Aspire 5720 ZG is not available on the list .. BUT..... you can probably use the 5720Z drivers..
You must uninstall Vista and do a new installation of everything to downgrade to XP.

Best wishes

How to downgrade acer aspire 5720 vista to xp

Hi,
I just got my 5720-4126 so once I had to test the Factory re-install (ALT-F10 at the ACER screen) and knew I could get back to where I started (Vista), tried to install XP from CD. It couldn't even see the disk drive :-(

ACER Aspire 5720

Hi All,

We are a workshop in Spain & I have had several problems with "Down grading" to XP. There is essentially one problem which causes an issue with the XP installation & that is if the the BIOS has a "Fixed" sata configuration. By that I mean you cannot change it to some sort of IDE or P-ATA (Symantics). Our current problems are with an Acer 5720 & an HP Pavilion DV9700. The Acer solution is exactly as "kraken3000" had mentioned before:
1. On POST (Powerup). enter BIOS by pressing F2
2. Tab along to the second option "Main"
3. Goto last option "SATA mode" & press enter.
4. From the small selection display select "IDE mode"
5. Save & exit the BIOS. This will then set the SATA mode for XP to be recognise.

DONOT set this back to SATA Mode after you install the XP as it will NOT boot. This setting must be kept untill you "Upgrade" (If ever) to Vista. The HP is another story...

Visit the Acer Panam site & download & install the XP drivers & your good to go...

I hope that this was of help...& good luck folks
