Question about Fisher and Paykel Dryers

1 Answer

I have a problem with my ancient Fisher and Paykel dryer ED56AU. All buttons have deteriorated so I cut through the front panel and use a wooden spoon to activate the button:)

Now the start button has gone completely. Is it possible to repair it or is too difficult/ expensive? Dryer isn't in particularly good shape in general

Hey GOD IS GOOD !!!!
Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

Fabric conditioner wont go through all blockage things checked and are clear! Please help!!

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
2 possibilities-

I hope you don't mind me saying so but often the softener dispensing siphon tube gets missed when cleaning the dispenser 'cos it's difficult to see!----------->

It will normally have some sort of cover over it which you must remove to expose the little stuck up pipe/tube. On some models there is just a small individual cap over the tube. The tube is down which the conditioner and water should siphon. It is likely to be blocked by 'gunge'- a mix of powder and conditioner. The whole of the tray, particularly this pipe and the bit which fits over it, must be completely clean and clear for it to operate correctly. It is worthwhile checking fairly regularly.

If this isn't the problem it could be that the water dispensing is not working correctly. It is easy to check by selecting (final?) rinse, pulling the drawer slightly out and seeing and hearing whether water is being fed into the softener tray. If is isn't then it is a call-out ;-0(

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

Hi,

There can be many reasons why your dryer will not start or turn...

The most common causes are the belt breaking or jumping off, or the motor going bad...

Here are a couple of tips that I wrote will help you to figure out why your dryer will not run...

My dryer will not start, I can hear the timer ticking, but won't start

One of just a few possibilities exist for you I think:
1) easiest and least probable- your push start switch is bad. Good news- this is easily checked with an ohm meter. (unplug the unit before the test!)
2) still easy and a little more probable- the switch for your door is bad/broken. Not as easy to check internally, but easy to identify from the exterior if the problem is mechanical
3) more difficult to check, but not too hard to replace and not too expensive- a start capacitor for the electric motor has gone bad. You may need some type of guidance to find this item- when I began years ago, I bought a simple generic appliance book-- it helped alot.
4) a little more difficult to replace, more probable, but not hard to find- your tumbler drum belt is broken-- you can find this by removing the inspection plate from the back of the unit and looking inside to the motor pulleys- is the belt on and snug? If not, you'll need a replacement
5) last, most expensive, and fortunately rare- your drive motor is bad. If the above all checks out- you may suspect this.

Dryer has no heat

Most of the time the no heat is caused by a high temperature limit fuse blowing due to a lack of air flow. The part is not expensive, but tracing it down in the particular dryer may be difficult. To give more direction I'd need more information. I am familiar with Speed Queen, Whirlpool and their renamed counterparts (some Hotpoint, Kenmore, etc.)

if dryer stopped running completely first ohm out your thermal limiter. located on back on the blower housing. then make sure your push to start button is good. only thing else it could be is a blown breaker or the motor has gone out

Laptop gone dark

This sounds like a burned out backlight lamp.  Had that happen to a Mac laptop used at work:  all the boot-up LEDs and sounds occurred, but a dark screen.  It was fixed promptly by our computer guy, who is pretty amazing at fixing computers.  So all I can tell you is that it shouldn't be a particularly expensive repair.

It's probably transistors on the crt board or caps in that control circuit. Not an expensive repair and worth doing... That particular model can still be fully rebuilt... Not a difficult chassis to pull and you could send it in to Tri-State Module for a complete rebuild... Or just find a reputable repair center locally and take them the TV for repair.. Bill
