This is NavyCPOwif- As you read above I have a crazy Maytag H20 as well!
I am a research person so looked around a little last night and found a site. for DIY folks. Every one is halving the same problem. I suggest a civil action suit !!! But in the mean time I am going to have my Navy Avionics Technition husband tackle it rather then deal with Maytag right now. " cost almost as much as a military fighter jet, so he should be able to do it!" BUt I wanted to pass this information along to other DIY folks out there. We have not done it yet since ours just went crazy Friday night. So we disconected the door /water connection. But everything else seems to be working fine at this point. Serious about the class action suite!!! these should be recalled we bought ours in GA June 2006 so it seems that the ones made in the 2006 time frame are the ones with the issues- I assuem that the folks that are having problems with in the 7 8 month time frame have the same lot due to ours is 18 months old but we paid $2600 were some have paid $1500.00. So not sure but something needs to be done becouse the list of other issues with this fridge seems pretty long and very expensive.... Good luck!
Site to fix panel issue: for $3 to $20- DIY:
I have just fix my maytag M#MFI2568AEB at a cost of $3.00 Believe or not. You need to go to website hhttp://22.214.171.124:8083/liny/maytagice2o.htm Everything you need is on the site. (yes gets Maytag off the hook, but gets your fridge going quicker)
DIY site for those interested:

I just installed a JVM 1540 with the same grille. I removed the two top phillips screws before mounting the oven as I cannot access these screw heads once the oven is installed. It took me about 20 minutes of fiddling with the grille to figure out (no thanks to the manual) that the grille needs to slide to the left to release so you can change the light bulb/charcoal filter.

I have a new ge 1540 and needed to remove the grill to install the charcoal filter.
After removing the two screws on top, you need to slide the grill about 1/2" to the left. Then the grill will wiggle loose and can be removed.

the truth about thse engines is they are hard to work on. if the valve covers are unbolted and still ****, try getting a rectangular peice of wood and putting it on the side of the cover neer the gasget, tap on the other end with a hammmer from all angles to try to break the seal.
this is a common problem with valve covers that havent ever been removed and they heat up, and cool down so many times they practically bake onto the head
