Drive sprocket nut comes loose when I try to start 2-stroke bike engine. Tightened it 3 months ago with impact wrench. What's needed to make it stay?


Usually there is a washer that sits under the sprocket that gets bent over to stop the nut undoing. The washer is specific and the internal hole will match the splines of the sprocket holder so it doesn't spin freely when it is on

How to remove drive sprochet nut


Hello Rndrosse, You need to purchase a tool called a piston stop. You remove the spark plug and replace it with the piston stop. The piston makes contact with the piston stop so you can remove and reinstall the drive sprocket nut.

Sprocket replacement


To get the sprocket nut off stuff some rope into the spark plug hole. Use rope that will not shed fibers. The rope stops the piston from traveling the full length of the stroke.

HOW DO I replace blade


You must remove the spark plug and use a piston stop tool to prevent engine's crankshaft from spinning. An alternate piston stop method is use starter rope and fill the cylinder cavity to stop the piston. With piston block from movement you can remove that nut. Caution should be use as sometime these are left hand versions. Double check which you should be turning it.

Remove the gearbox sprocket cover, this may mean undoing the gear lever, First put the bike in gear. This will lock the sprocket so you can undo the securing nut, you will also need to loosen the rear axle to allow the chain to be taken off the sprocket. Then remove the sprocket, refit is the same process in reverse. I would suggest you change the complete set (front & rear sprockets and the chain) that way you only have to take it to bits once. And it will also mean the chain lasts longer as the wear will be the same at both ends.

Having problems undoing front sprocket ! Would it be left-hand thread Also cant get socket on very far do i need a special socket as its got two different sizes 27mm on first part of nut and 32mm on rear...


There should be a bent washer over the nut to stop it from turning. Have a good look.
Flatten the bent washer with a flat cold chisel, gently, as you need it again! Put the bike in top gear to hold the sprocket and use a spanner 27mm to undo the nut. It is a clockwise thread.
When you put a sprocket back on, don't forget the bent washer and a drop of Loctite Threadlock will help to hold it on.

How to change the front sprocket


remove the left faring undo the water pump mounting bolts not all the bolts around the pump just the two that hold it to the engine case pull the pump out about one inch the undo the sprocket cover and remove put the engine in gear and get somone to hold the rear brake on loosen the sprocket bolt undo the rear wheel axle nut and loosen the chain adjusters to put some slack in the chain then remove the front sprocket and fit the new one on put some lock tite on the sprocket bolt and do up tite with the bike in gear and someone holding the brake on put the water pump on and make sure it is lined up properley when you push it back in it should sit flush to the engine with an easy push.adust your chain and titen all the bolts and nuts and refit your faring.hope the was helpfull please leave feedback.

If you mean the teeth on the chain, then you would not need to remove the clutch to change it.
Presumably you mean the drive sprocket is worn.
To do this, you need to stop the engine from turning over while you undo the nut.
You should have got a piston stop with the saw. Funny little flat plastic thing with round ends. You probably wondered what on earth it was for (I did). If you've not got it, you can improvise.
You remove the spark plug & insert one end of the tool, basically, this puts a lump of hard plastic on top of the piston so it cannot reach the top of its stroke.
This means you can undo the nut holding the clutch & sprocket to the crankshaft.
It will be left hand thread (I'm fairly sure).
Should be easy from there, but come back if you're still stuck.
