First inspect any fuel lines for tightness at the connections, flexibility, and cracks or holes in the line. If there is no seal, the vacuum is not present to pull the fuel in. If no problems are found, try a 1-2 second spray of staring fluid into the air intake and immediately try starting it.

Last year I started the tiller and while I was using it it just quit and it wouldn't start again. I replaced the gas and put in a new spark plug and still couldn't get it started.

Did you remove & drain the bowl below the carb. If that doesn't work remove the carb & clean out all ports & passageways. Use non-ethanol gas in the future & remove all fuel at the end of the season including in the carb & fuel lines.

Troy bilt troubleshooting tiller

sounds like not enough vacum to draw fuel .faulty diaphram pump. gas cap should have a breather assembly to allow air to enter gas tank and prevent a vacum lock as well

Gas floods out of the exhaust manifold

Stuck float valve, letting too much fuel into the carb. Try taking the bowl off of the carb and checking to make sure that the float needle moves freely up and down. If there is evidence of gumming inside the bowl you will want to get some spray carb cleaner and clean everything in there thoroughly.

New MTD Yard Machine with 158cc briggs worked great but after only using it 2 times now it will start but quits after primer gas is gone (about 1 or 2 seconds). Does this repeatedly.

Running only on the prime is caused by the main jet in the carburetor being blocked. This can happen if you put dirty or old fuel in it or let it sit for a long time with fuel in it. Today's ethanolated gas goes bad quickly and absorbs tons of moisture which causes water to settle to bottom of the fuel tank, which in turn prevents the main jet from lifting fuel, it picks up water instead, thus causing it to die. So, check the tank for water, drain. Check the gas can, and get rid of the old stuff. If debris in either of them, you may have to take carb apart to clean the main jet.

Have a tecumseh ohh50 4 cycler engine on a garden

Check for condensation in the tank. Fill with FRESH gas, then if no luck, proceed ...

Main jet partially blocked. Undo bowl nut. Some models have the jet in the side of the nut - check and clean. If not, the jet is in the emusion tube of the carb - accessible throught the bowl nut orifice. Clean out & test.

Engine won't stay running without constant spray in the throtal port with engine start, replaced float needle and seal. Spark plug,??

Your problem is fuel related no fire related.Check to see if you have gas getting to the carburetor[pull off the fuel line that comes from the tank and goes to the carb],if you have no fuel then either the shut off valve on the tank is bad or the tank is plugged. Also with the new needle installed is the fuel bowl getting filled? You may need to set the float up some more.

I have a 2003 huskee rear tine 5.0 when i spray starting fluid in it's runs 4 a few seconds then dies. I have cleaned the carb and the gas tank and line, I still seems that it is not getting fuel

Did you clean out all of the tiny holes in the main jet of the carburetor? I assume you also put fresh fuel in it as well. One other thing, a compression leak (loose spark plug, bad head gasket) can make it act like it's starving for fuel. Good luck. I'd still place my bet on the carb having one or two holes plugged in the main jet.

Echo tiller doesn''t want to run

you may need a diaphram in the carb or the tiny screen (if it has one) is plugged. Also check hoses to and from tank make sure they are good and not soft and gooey. You could draine tank and put pure gas in and use primer bulb to circulate it then remove gas and add mixed gas. long shot but may work, has for me.

5 hp Briggs and stratton wont run on a MTD tiller.

I had the same problem a few years back. Check the rubber elbow coming from the gas tank to the carb, it's probably cracked and sucking air instead of fuel from the tank.
