First make sure the belt is not hitting anything when the blade is engaged (engine off), the if ok remove belt and look in pulley grooves for rocks or chips., then run finger all around groove to make sure there is no catches or spurs. If that is all ok then with belt on and engine idleing as slow as possible and blade engaged look and see if pulley is wobbling, BE CAREFULL !! look at the engine pulley first then with EXTREME CAUTION look under deck from opposte side of chute. ( Check with deck at highest setting)

How do you find an inline fuse for a mtd brand riding mower 38inch cut 14 horsepower?

Lift the hood and it should be close to the front side that you are now looking into. Look for the new flat colored fuses not he round old style fuses.

What causes belt shredding on swisher pull behind mower, 44" cut, 11.5 hp

how old is your trail mower? have you checked the pulleys for the belt drive? possibly the pulleys are loose, or the shafts holding them are worn and wobbling causing a misalignment of the belt, in turn shredding the belt. also check the pulleys to make sure they are smooth, allowing the belt to move cleanly

Mtd 42" riding mower rear drive belt keeps popping off pulley

Hi, check the idler pulley arm and return spring on that belt. Its most likely not pivoting freely allowing the belt to loosen when you operate the clutch, regards Phil.

My MTD riding lawnmower is burning thru the new belts I just purchased. The new belts are 954-0371A which replaces 754-0371A. The old style belt lasted 5 years. Even before engaging the clutch, the belt...

My idea is not about the belts, but is about the deck. If the tensioning mechanism on the deck is getting stuck in an intermittant position than the belt may be just tight enough to turn blades while slipping through the pulleys, this may cause enough friction to start melting your belts. If this is the case you will have to remove your mower deck and see what is preventing the mechanism from functioning properly.

MTD 14/32 lawn tractor 16 years old. Cutting grass then stopped. Belts smoking in forward. Will go in reverse. Changed belt and does same thing. In neutral and in gear wheels will not turn???

If your belt is connected to a gearbox then you need to go inside the gearbox and see what is holding up forward motion I think it could possibly be a broken tooth on a gear or something inside gearbox stopping your forward motion. Shot in the dark maybe but it's worth a try if your handy. Good luck!

How do I know if I am replacing my mtd rider mower belt correctly

The rule of thumb for the routing of the mower belts is to make sure the "V" inside of belt is fitted into your pulleys. The "FLAT SIDE" outside of the belts rides with the flat side up against your idlers (lookes kinda like a pulley but is wider.) It might take you a couple of attempts to get it right. When the belt is on properly it will be nice and snug.

Good luck
