You can use any regulator that you want, the only difference is the new ones don't support a double gauge assembly.

It sounds like you may have a bad voltage regulator. On some models the voltage regulator is inside the alternator so it may be bad. Normally when you turn the AC on there is a circuit that brings the engine idle up a bit to compensate for the load of the compressor, that too may be malfunctioning. Did you look up your vehicle on the internet to see if this is an issue with that particular model?

I have a craftman riding mower model 917-273381, It will run & cutt grass good for about 4 to 5 min & then stop. I`ve replaced carb kit & check the kill switch. It still doing the same thing.

How long does it have to sit before it starts again? Does it need to be jumped? If battery is old or not recharging you can loose power. I had a regulator go bad and mine would keep dying. I would charge the battery and mow for awhile then would die again. Have you checked battery and regulator?

I have a 1HP/7 1/2 gal. Craftman air compressor( about 20 years old). I was using it to spray paint lawn chairs. The compressor stopped. I was to use it the next morning but for only a short time and it...

1) Check that it is not already at full pressure
2) Check that you have power coming in to the switch (20 year old power cord)
3) Bypass the switch and, briefly, plug it in.
4) Look for a fuse or breaker.
5) With the motor leads disconnected from the switch, check that you have resistance across the motor (0 ohms would be bad).

If you are not comfortable doing any part of this, don't. Check with friends & neighbors for a reputable local appliance repair company.

Alternator tests good, replaced anyway, still wont charge, not a conectivity or battery problem, what else could it be?

if like you say not a connection problem, then either the battery has a bad cell or the alternators regulator is bad, years ago you could adj voltage output on regulator, not anymore, due to sealed batteries

I have a craftman oiless air compressor model # 919153210 that I need parts for and sears do not carry the part anymore. thank you for any help., gcmac@netzero.net

Many of Sears oilfree compressors were made by Devilbiss. Try going to this address http://www.devilbissparts.com/ and enter your sears part numbers. (example cac-4281 for valve plate) They will most likely have the parts that you need. Good luck and email if you have other questions about your conpressor.
