For MS Windows Operating Systems: After first going to Control Panel (By clicking on your Start Button/ icon) Select Hardware/ Printers/ Faxes and make certain that your Scanner is set a the default device.
If you have not already turned off and restarted your computer and scanner:)
You may also try rebooting or uninstalling, then re-installing your scanner to ensure your computer identifies the correct driver and connects to he scanner. Especially since the scanner was working previously.
I have a Xerox scanner that disappears. So far the only way to fix it is to uninstall and reinstall the drivers.
