My scanner quit working it says no scanner was detected. but it was working

Uninstall the device driver, restart the Comp and reinstall the software. If the scanner is not detected, try inserting any working device on the same USB port. if it detected, thee could be problem in the Scanner, if the new device is not detected, then it may be port problem.

Your scanner may not be compatible with windows xp. You may need to see if the manufacturer's website may have driver files for your scanner.

First install software driver if finish, connect your scanner USB cable to USB ports of CPU(make sure that your USB ports working good, test also using your USB flash drive).then you can see on screen automatic detect your scanner. if not detected try to change your USB scanner data cable. then try again connect to USB ports of CPU.

Just let me know if not yet working.

You need to connect an engine diagnostic scanner to the vehicle and see what the computer has detected. The scanner is usually quite easy to use and self-explanatory.
In a situation like this, it's usually something simple, like a sparkplug or sensor.
Often an auto parts retailer can be the best resource in a situation like this. Some will allow you to rent borrow or purchase code scanners, and some will even help you perform the diagnostic scan if they have the time.
That is your first step; don't try to replace parts or perform any other repairs until you know what's actually causing the problem.

I have the same problem with my Canoscan LiDE 25 scanner used sparingly since purchase in 2008. Last used 3 days back after a gap of a few months when it scanned a few pages and then stopped working. On connecting the scanner to my laptop on Vista Home Premium 32-bit it shows "USB device not recognized". No change in status after uninstalling drivers, cleaning my system, and reinstalling drivers from the Canon CD, or Canon US site, or Canon UK site. Even tried VueScan but this also does not recognize the scanner. I find it hard to believe that a Canon product stops working in barely 5-6 years even though it is very sparingly used and stored in the original packing when not in use.

The scanner has a separate driver. Go to Device Manager and click "Imaging Devices." Is the scanner there? If yes, try to update driver. If it's not there, right click and select "scan for hardware changes." Plug and play should see the scanner and install it. If not, go to control panel, hardware, add device. Keep the disk in the machine, as you know it has the drivers on it. If there is a newer driver online, you can update later.

first shut down ur pc disconnect the power cable and usb cable from scanner put the power cable of scanner and see if light is coming if itis coming connect the usb cable check in device manager if it is detected also check the adapter voltages and try replacing usb cable if required

I was recently faced with this same problem, with non detection of the scanner N640P ex flatbed. It has a card for the parallel port connection and was installed by a computer repairer to save me time. He said it worked, but when I got it home, it failed, even with the new driver added.
Here is what I did.
Check the ports in which are used for the scanner, mine was found to be LPT2, I changed that to LPT1.
(Be prepared to reverse these 2 if necessary).
I did a reboot and turned on the scanner and it showed it was there but refused to bring up the Toolbox to scan anything.
Next step, go the Microsoft and pick up this "Restore parVdm" this belongs in Windows System 32 and aids in the recognition of not only your scanner but other vital peripherals.
Its a microsoft fail when the parVdm does not recognise something.
I installed that as it comes down in .rar file, and rebooted, and all is working exceptionally well.
Will this work with any other OS? I have no idea. This worked for me on XP SP3 but parVdm also exists in Windows 7, 8 and Vista.

Try the program compatibility mode I think these scanner were made for 95/98 DOS machines and did not translate to EXP because of firmware differences.
