Issue When attempting to scan, or, during the scanning process, the error message An unexpected internal error has occurred may display on the computer screen. There are three scenarios where this issue occurs. This document covers each scenario where this error may occur and provides links to the appropriate documentation for resolving each scenario. HP C4480 all-in-one scanning errors

Frankly Vista is a dog, and I'm not surprised at your difficulty. Have you tried installing the printer from Vista itself, rather than using the Printer CD? This can work if the printer CD is for XP (as many are).

There are two ways for install the Scanner using only "the driver" and using "HP Photosmart Studio Includes Support for Mac OS X v10.3, v10.4 and v10.5 (Leopard)" using the driver not include IRIS OCR software only the driver to scan and thats why say "An OCR error ocurred, couldn't create file". Installing the HP Photosmart Studio fix the problem.
