Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

Open Question

Where is the interior drain hole located for the bottom mount KENMORE ELITE REFRIGERATOR Model #79574019411? Online Owner's manual is useless.

Had water under deli drawer and ice build up at left rear corner behind crisper drawer. Behind the exterior panel at the bottom rear of the refrigerator, we can find the two drain lines which drip directly into the evaporator pan(s), but we cannot find the interior drain hole to flush out any possible gunk/crud which might be creating a clog somewhere inside. The two exterior drain lines are free of clogs. We've unplugged & de-iced the left rear interior corner of fresh food section of refrigerator. Would like to flush this hidden drain tube just to cover our bases. Exploded parts schematic we found on line was no help.

SOURCE: Water collects in the bottom of my LG LRTP1231W

Some units don't have a drain tube. The water flows down the back of the fridge into the bottom and it just makes a mess. It has been a problem ever since they started going "Energy efficient". The drain was a hole and they had to close the holes. If you're lucky enough to have the drain, it will be located inside the back wall of your freezer. The inside walls must be removed. The drain will be in the drip pan, below the freezing coils (fins) in the back of the freezer.

Hello Rick,

That water is from the melting frost of the automatic defrost cycle. Their is drain in the freezer behind the back wall under the evaperator coil that is blocked, so instead of defrost water draining it's pooling in the freezer or in some case espically on models with the freezer on the top,the water is leaking from the freezer vents into the fresh food compartment.
The way to clear the drain is remove back plate and remove all ice build up and GENTLY make a small hole in drain through then totally flush w/warm water.
The exact location of drain is under the coil behind back freezer plate in the center

Good luck

I hope this helps

Good day,
It's become a common problem on newer machines with less frequent defrost cycles and for a shorter period of time.
The following clip, as you scroll down will see the most exotic procedure. You may not have to go that far.
Using a length of #14 bare copper wire, and wrapping it around the heater and inserting it into the drain hole will usually work. You will need to remove the heater to perform this process properly, and I prefer to wrap the copper close together, each wrap touching the last one. Your call.

Your machine is a product of Whirlpool which makes many brands, all of them with the same basic system.

Kenmore elite - Water dripping from freezer to refrigerator

Your refrigerator has a defrost drain blockage behind the evaporator in your your freezer compartment. Some models like yours have leak in the turns as the water leaves the freezer. I recommend that you unplug and remove the cover to the evaporator and check the defrost condensate tray below the evaporator. A wet vacuum cleaner and poring a solution with clorox in the drain will help you clean locate the leak and where the blockage may be downline.. I do have the manual on yours and can help you solve this. Some times this is a factory defect and I can help you solve the freezing drain problem. Let me know, Sea Breeze

If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer section you do have a defrost problem. If there is no frost your compressor may be the problem. Check and clean the condenser in back behind a removable panel. reinstall the panel after cleaning. If you hear a hum and a click in back of the refrigerator the compressor has malfunctioned.

If the problem is in the defrost locate the timer, usually mounted near controls for temperature. A hole in that area will give access to the screw to turn the timer into defrost. It is a clutch head screw and can only be turned in a clockwise direction. Turn it SLOWLY until you hear one click. The system will be in the defrost mode. If after 30 minutes the system fails to return to the cooling mode turn the screw a little further until you hear a second click (replace timer). The system will restart in cooling. If it restarts after 18-22 minutes and defrost does not happen you problem is in the defrost heater circuit (Call for service).
