SOURCE: Does high blood pressures med.cause you to have memory problems? And is there a way to get back off high blood pressure meds.?

As you know from watching television, all medications have many potential side effects. However, having said that, as a working RN for 25 years, I have never heard of blood pressure meds causing memory problems. If anything, it is the other way around: high blood pressure may cause decreased circulation to the brain and therefore possibly cause some memory loss. The thing about blood pressure meds is this: they are very very important! If you allow high blood pressure to go untreated, you can damage your eyes and your kidneys, both which have tons of small blood vessels. You can also wind up having a stroke. Generally, it is unsafe to get off blood pressure medications on your own.

I am a woman of ag 74 what should my blood pressure be

The older we get, the more likely we will have high blood pressure, still the acceptable range remains the same for everyone. You are in the range of "pre-hypertension" if your systolic pressure is 120 to 139, or diastolic pressure is 80 to 89. You are considered to have "high blood pressure" if your systolic pressure is 140 or higher, or diastolic pressure is 90 or more.

If your blood pressure is in the neighborhood of 115/70, you are doing great. :)

Causes high systolic blood pressure

Isolated systolic hypertension can be caused by underlying conditions such as artery stiffness, heart valve problems or an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). For years, doctors focused primarily on diastolic blood pressure. The recommended goal for systolic pressure for younger people is less than 140 mm Hg.

Low diastolic pressure for what reason

That paper coined a new term, "isolated diastolic hypotension," which refers to a low diastolic blood pressure (less than 60 mm Hg) and a normal systolic pressure (above 100 mm Hg). Older adults who fit those conditions are at increased risk for developing new-onset heart failure, the researchers found.17 May 2015

Quick Answer

To read a blood pressure chart by age, locate your age range, then view the corresponding normal systolic and diastolic numbers, notes Disabled World. The chart offered by Disabled World features average blood pressure readings for 14 different age ranges. For adults between the ages of 25 and 29, a normal blood pressure reading is 120/80 millimeters of mercury. Average blood pressure increases with age.

The diastolic blood pressure number or the bottom number indicates the pressure in the arteries when the heart rests between beats. A normal diastolic blood pressure number is less than 80. A diastolic blood pressure between 80 and 89 indicates prehypertension.

My blood pressure is 110/95 and my heart rate is 124/bpm. I am pregnant what does that mean?

110/95 Blood Pressure
Is 110/95 Good Blood Pressure or High Blood Pressure?

There are two parts or two separate numbers referred to as blood pressure: Systolic/Diastolic. If the blood pressure is 110/95 (110 over 95), it means that the systolic pressure is 110 and the diastolic pressure is 95.

110/95 blood pressure can also be read as 110/95 mm Hg, or 110/95 millimeters of mercury. The 110 mm Hg Systolic refers to the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats, and the 95 mm Hg Diastolic is the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats.

When determining if 110/95 is a good blood pressure, we looked at the American Heart Association's blood pressure chart.

Blood Pressure Systolic Diastolic Normal Less than 120 Less than 80 Prehypertension 120 - 139 80 - 89 High Blood Pressure
(Hypertension) Stage 1 140 - 159 90 - 99 High Blood Pressure
(Hypertension) Stage 2 160 or higher 100 or higher Hypertensive Crisis
(Emergency care needed) Higher than 180 Higher than 110
For 110/95 to be good, both numbers must fit into the "normal" category above. Otherwise, it will fall into other categories of High Blood Pressure.

Systolic reading of 110 is in the Normal range.
Diastolic reading of 95 is in High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) Stage 1 range.
Therefore, 110/95 is High Blood Pressure (Hypertension Stage 1).

What is the danger having pressure 130/100

Inasmuch as your heart is in the left side of your chest, this is not a good sign. Doctors treat blood pressures greater than 140/90. Your diastolic pressure of 100 is a bit too high. High blood pressure causes enlarged heart and other serious issues. Go read about it at wikipedia and start to become more informed. There are lifestyle changes that may help reduce blood pressure.

I can't find my user manual and I forgot what the 160, 200, and 240 represent.

Normally, the 160, 200 & 240 are the systolic (top) reading of the blood pressure. Again, that's under normal conditions. But, even so, the 200 & 240 are extremely high. The diastolic is the bottom reading. With a systolic reading of 200 or 240, the diastolic reading is usually very high too. In which case, it would indicate the person has hypertension (abnormally high blood pressure), which can be a serious situation.

The nornal blood pressure for a healthy individual is 120 to 140 over 80 or less. Age, weight, smoker or nonsmoker and other health issues, can affect this normal reading one way or the other.

As an EMT for over 25 years, I would be concerned if I had a patient with a blood pressure reading of 200/120 (200 over 120). And even more so, if their blood pressure reading was 240/120 or higher.

If you have had or are having readings on the high side as I described, I would recommend that you consult your personal doctor as soon as possible.
