Question about Brother Sewing Machines
I have the same problem. The serger is making the chain, but it's not moving off the stitch finger! I have to pull it while im operating it (with force) and when i put fabric, it bunches up like crazy and i just broke a needle... Any clue anyone?? Here is a picture... https://goo.gl/fhqq15

It may be helpful to grasp the thread tails and gently pull on them when beginning to stitch, particularly when there is no fabric or just beginning to stitch. Usually, after that, the fabric will move the stitches off the finger.

The serger chain will wrap or stack around the stitch fingers when stitching without fabric, this is normal. Place two layers of medium weight woven cotton under the presser foot and begin serging, the chain will wrap around the fabric cut edge to form stitches and 'push off' the originally stacked stitches.
