SOURCE: Yard Machines - Won't shift into gear

The problem most likely is the shaft on which the interlock slides back and forth on inside the transmission. The yardmachines have a continous spinning shaft which ends in a bevel gear. The is an interlock plate which is connected to the Forward Reverse shift lever, this plate slides back and forth and either engages the forward gear or the backward gear. This shaft is most likely galled up, preventing everything from sliding the way it needs to. This is not a difficult thing to fix if you are somewhat mechanical. Disassemble the transmission and check if everything slides

Craftman riding mower quit, ran one side of deck into a dirt bank. No power, the fuse is behind dash, my gas tank is there. Do i remove it?

I unhooked my wiring harness from frame so you can get to the fuse. The gas tank shouldn't be that to remove. 4 bolts and the gas line.

Wont move forward or reverse-- transmission??

Does it have gears or a hydrostatic (automatic) transmission?

If it's a gear model, sounds like a loose drive belt.

If it's hydrostatic, it could be a belt problem or a problem inside the transmission. If it's a tranmission problem, this is not good. Many of the transmissions on riding lawn mowers are not serviceable - they are just replaced.
