You can stop any lawn mower by taking a screwdriver and touch the engine and also touch the spark plug the same time. this will short out the spark plug and shut the engine down. Use a screwdriver with a plastic handle and you cannot hurt yourself with a shock.
if you have a little handle on the mower handle that is suppose to shut the engine off and it does not work follow the cable and see if you see where it fastens unto the engine. Sometimes these little parts can get out of adjustment.

SOURCE: Lawn mower will not start and run

Sounds like a clogged carb or a cracked primer bulb. I would install a carb rebuild kit and new primer bulb if your mower uses one.

SOURCE: my craftsman rotory lawn mower 6.5 hp self

You have water in in the carborator, I'll bet. I had this same problem. Here's what I did.

I emptied the gas tank, put in a new spark plug, changed the oil and then unscrewed thd big nut on the bottom of the float container (attached to the carborator near the rubber gas injector button) and emptied and cleand the float container. Then i put it all back together, pulled the cord and the same thing happened, but this time i could keep it going by having my daughter constantly pushing the rubber gas injector button. After it had run for a minute with this constant pushing of the button, all the water was gone from everytwhere and it worked.

engine numbers would be helpful buttttt.... the perimeter of the recoil assy should be 3-5 small screws. remove them and it should come off, the is as long as you have a eagerbeaver engine ( tecumseh ohv )

John deere instructions

Your mower doesn't have enough power to handle very thick grass at high speed. You need to go slower across the lawn. That's easy to do if this is a push mower (just don't walk so fast) or if it's a self-propelled model with a speed control. But if it's a single-speed model you'll have to mow the lawn in fits and starts: squeeze the lever to move it forward; release it when you hear it bogging down; wait for the motor to reach full speed; squeeze the lever to move it forward again; repeat. Also, is the grass very high? If so, try setting the cutting height higher on the first pass, then lower it for a second pass. Finally, make sure the blade is sharp.

I need the manual for a craftsman walk behind model no# 91737068. I didn't get one with my purchase

You can get one in PDF, have them email you one, or contact them and say one wasn't included with the new mower. Here is the PDF version for your owner's manual and a parts list is available that may include the paper printed version as well.

Have never used the lawnmower and the pull cord seems locked or stuck. I can't pull it at all. Is there a button or lever that needs to be pushed before intial use of machine?

There is a brake lever that stops the motor and blade when it is released. This is usually parallel to the handle and would normally be squeezed against the handle when you operate the mower. When released, it is a safety mechanism to immediately stop the spinning blade. You have to squeeze that lever in order to start or run the mower. You can see that lever in the image at the top of your question. Good luck, Al K

Hello I have a Mountfield MPR10071 46" power mower with a Honda GCV 135 4.5 engine just bought it second hand and its fine other than if you let go of the cutting lever it stalls! is it supost to do this ?...

I suspect you mean the OPC (operator presence control) lever? This is a safety feature - if you let go, the blades stop. Since your mower does not have a blade clutch, this means the engine stops.

All walk-behinds HAVE to have this feature if manufactured after (I think) 2002 in the UK - similar rules apply elsewhere.

There's no easy way to disable it - if you tie up the handle so you can empty the grass catcher with the engine running, you will find that you have no way of stopping the engine.

Craftsman eager-1 lawnmower will not start

Hi, The first thing I always check for is fresh fuel (less than a couple of months old) old unleaded may well be fine in your car but low compression engines fitted to garden equipment need fresh fuel. next thing to check is that the choke flap is closing fully, dont rely on the position of the control lever, remove the airfilter cover and see that the flap is fully closed, if it's cracked open just a little bit it will stop engine starting ( unless the filter is really dirty) another thing to check is that the blade is tightly secured, on direct drive mowers the blade acts as a flywheel. did you hit an obstruction the last time you used it, if you did you may have sheared the flywheel key(poor spark on points ignition or good spark but timing out of sync on electronic ignition. hope this helps, regards Tony (England UK)
