You can try cleaning the video tape heads. The vcr has 2 different heads. One for audio which is fixed and a drum head for video with 2 heads on it that rotate. The best way to clean them is to take a lint free cloth ad wrap it tightly around your finger. Put some alcohol on the cloth and place it on the drum. Then rotate the drum as you hold your finger against the drum. DO NOT move your finger up and down as you can brake the head off. The other option is to go buy a head cleaning stick. It's a piece of chamie on a plastic tongue depressor. I've cleaned hundreds of them with my finger though. You can clean the whole tape path with the rag. Good Luck.

it took me several days, but I've finally figured out what my problem was. I could record while my tv was on, but as soon as I turned it off, there was no picture but there was sound.
I had to disconnect my HDMI connection. Instead use the component connection from your HD cable box to your TV. You will still have a HD picture, and you will be able to record with the TV off.

SOURCE: sound and picture jumping
This is probably because this camera records in HD format which will jump around when played on computers that are not very high performance. You need at least 2gb of RAM and a decent processor.
Otherwise, the codec is missing or old for playing the format.
