Question about Frigidaire FRT17G4B Top Freezer Refrigerator

Our freezer has snowy ice and now the fridge cools poorly??? cleaned the coils, checked gaskets,drip pan, and it sounds like the fan by the coils is running, any help on what to check for next???

If you have a ice maker check the water inlet to see if there is an air gap if not make sure your your gasket is not bad and your not blocking the air flow from your freezer to your fridge. also check your temp. and make sure that the number difference is only off by no more than one

I think my evaporator fan is out everything in fridge is warm to touch and ice is built up on freezer wall at rear of freezer and ice cubes will not freeze solid.also do not hear fan running any more

Drip pan needs emptying; had repairman out for other issues, now fridge keeps overflowing


The accumulated ice you saw is of course the source of the water. The refrigerator will eventually rid itself of the excess ice and the problem will therefore disappear on it's own after a while. The drip pan is normally filled with only a small amount of water, and that is dried up by the condenser cooling fan under the fridge. The pan is removable from most units, but not without making a mess. I suppose you can make and clean up the mess one time and be done with it.

Hey how's it going? I may have the info you need, but first I need you to go through a check list to see if there is a simple fix.
Check to see if there are any obstructions in the freezer drain (freezer drain located inside freezer compartment behind back panel lower right hand corner of the freezer coils) if there are obstructions or debris remove and clean with a mild dish washing detergent and water, check to see that water can drain freely. see if this helps.when the coils freeze is the ice flaky or is it frozen solid ice? if the ice is flaky it could mean that either the refridges/freezer door are left open to long "check your door gaskets or seals by closing the on a dollar bill if it pulls out easily with little to know resistance your door gaskets may need to be replaced. After you defrost the freezer coils did you notice if there was water in the condensor pan, if so good sign. (condensor pan: is the pan that collects the water that drips through the drain hole of the freezer compartment caused by the heating of the coil by the coil heater: water that enters the pan collects and is reused by the condensor fan by blowing warm air partly into the water and through the condensor coils causing them to cool.)if you still need to test your bi-metal therostat or your glass heater/ice pipe heater, you will need a multimeter and knowledge on the use of it.(IF YOU 'RE NOT NOT COMFORTABLE AROUND ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICITY PLEASE CONTACT A QUALIFIED REPAIR SERVICE AND REMEMBER TO UNPLUG APPLIANCE BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIRS) for more info on how to test please reply,Good Luck, be safe..

Magic Chef RB19KA-4A not cooling. Compressor is running as I can observe frost on the copper tubing. Condensor coils were cleaned off of dust but overnight the freezer temp only got down to 45 deg F. Any...


It was determined to be a malfunctioning defrost timer. The freezer box bottom was removed (not an easy thing to do) and the coils found to be a solid block of ice. The timer would not start the defrost heater, hence the freeze up. The timer was replaced and the chill box is back in action.
