Make sure you have a good ground. If ground is good, make sure you are holding the tip level to the work and right up close.

What kind of air compressor do you need to run a plasma cutter? (how many psi, gallons, volts... and any other info...?)

Hi:

You will need at least the following:

25 CFH at 120 PSI
30 gallon reserve tank
220 V single or 3 Phase (that depends of your voltage available at your shop/home)

For cutting: set your plasma regulator to 75 psi.
For Gouging: set your plasma regulator to 65 psi.

That's all.

The fan you hear is the cooling fan for inverter.
The air pressure is delivered by the air compressor, through the air filter/regulator device.
Check what is the pressure of the compressor, and the regulated pressure on your pressure gauge (if you have in the front, or may be in the rear of your cutter).

When air is hooked up it blows the air regulator and all the air blows out valve very little gets to gun.red safety light comes on on front of machine and it will not work

Air pressure should be no more than 90#s. If regulator cannot handle at least 125#s . Get a new regulater. Sounds like this regulator has a blown diaphram.

Pull the trigger ,air comes out no fire

Ck the ground and the condition of the tip. The more it gets concave the harder it gets to get a arch. Gun angle is also important, hold at right angle to work and don't forget a very good ground.

Hi,

I would recommend replacing the electrode, and maybe the tip, other that that it sounds like you aren't getting a good enough ground for it to start.

Is your air compressor able to keep up with the continuous regulated air flow?

In this process, an inert gas (in some units, compressed air) is blown at high speed out of a nozzle; at the same time an electrical arc is formed through that gas from the nozzle to the surface being cut, turning some of that gas to plasma. The plasma is sufficiently hot to melt the metal being cut and moves sufficiently fast to blow molten metal away from the
