Recently when returning from a trip my C550 giving keptme the message "satellite unable to locate" (not the exact words) This went on for a week or more but suddenly started locating me from the satellite. It seems to be working okay now but I am concerned about the reliability. We rely heavily on this tool.

The term "file integrity violated" does not seem to be a real Windows error message.
In what part of the wold are you located? Have you traveled to other countries recently. This may be a bogus message with an unknown purpose. The MS support site says There are no documents that match your search for "file integrity violated"
But the exact wording shows up on overseas web sites lots and lots of times.
Be careful.run an virus scan or malware scan.

Here's how to reset Garmin Street Pilot C550:

1. Remove the front plate of the c550 by sliding your finger under the groove in the plate below the Garmin mark on the plate.

2. Push the now-exposed reset button. The reset button is located on the same side of the c550 as the power cable connector.

3. Plug the c550 into an external power source to restart the c550 after you have reset it. The factory default settings will be restored.

It is possible that the internal battery has discharged, and is unable to recharge due to a blown fuse inside the cigar lighter plug or a blown fuse in the car's fuse block for the cigar lighter outlet.

1. Unscrew and remove the silver or black, round end piece.

2. Remove the fuse (glass and sliver cylinder) and replace with a new fuse.
3. Ensure that the silver tip is placed in the end piece. Screw on the end piece.

Consult your car's owner's manual for locating the fuse block in the car. Both fuses must be good.

If you're unable to power up the c500 outside of the car (running on internal battery) your c550's internal battery may no longer be able to accept a charge. This will require a battery replacement - or use with a cigar adapter only. You may have to return the GPS to Garmin for a battery replacement - but there are some third party battery providers for some Garmin GPS units. If one is available for the c550, you may save enough money to make going the third party route worthwhile.

Your only other option is to return the unit to Garmin. Be aware, however, if you are not the owner of record, they will not return the GPS unit to you.

If the seller was selling it because he got an upgrade, then he's saying he used it before. Why doesn't he know the code? Sounds shady to me. The unit could be a store return or a demo unit that someone set the code on it not telling anyone what it was. Most likely he bought it locked, could not figure out the code and found a new victiom....YOU!

Sorry but your only hope is to call Garmin and if its been registered to someone else or reported stolen, your going to have much greater problems my friend.

The Garmin NEVER "creates" a PIN. You can choose a PIN and you can choose to change the PIN. If you have entered a PIN that you do not remember, you can take the unit to the location at which the PIN was set. Your only other option is to return the unit to Garmin.

if missplaced do a search if none for rsults goto any search engine and type in your exact model name and the words USERs GUIDE/MANUAL...............who needs one of those nemore.....well im not here to judge im here to help have fun and dont be afraid to ask for help i am but 1 of the many useful members

This can be easily fixed....
I had the same problem, I returned first piece and exchanged for the second. Had the same problem with second and took back to Circuit city. The GPS guys took out 3rd one for me and had same problem. Then the manager came who has been using these for couple of years and tried to set the home location 3 times and it worked 3rd time. He did the same for the second returned piece and it also worked. He says since these pieces are programmed for Kansas we need to give 3-4 tried before the piece first 'locates' satellite and then acquires satellite. After the the piece just turned out to be awesome.
