Hi there, I 've got a D-560 that has been working fine, and then i bought a new xD card for it ( It is a sandisk 512 card) when i inserted it. the only thing that happened was that the camera opens and the lens extends and the onange light blinks and i get two short beeps continuiously. This is all it does now. I left the batteries out over night and still the same results. Did i Kill it?

It's possible that your camera is not compatible with the new card. The C-350 and D-560 will only accept cards up to 512 MB <URL:http://www.olympus.co.uk/consumer/208_1212.htm>. You might want to check with Olympus anyway: there might be a firmware update or something.
Unfortunately, most shops only carry the bigger cards now, if they carry xD cards at all. If you bought the card from Crucial, I would expect they would take it back if it's not compatible.
The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is an M or H 512mb card. The 1gb card is not compatible. The firmware in the camera cannot support memory storage with that capacity. The camera came out before those cards did and there no plans to upgrade the camera to allow those types of cards to be supported.
Is that card compatible with that camera. They make HD (high definition) cards (4gig and above) that will only work with newer camera's. Of course, i am speaking of SD cards. But the XD may have a similar feature. That is the exact error i got when i tried to use an HD card in my 5 year old camera. Try downgrading to a smaller memory card. Also, is that memory card exactly as the one you have had prior to this?
What is the advantage of a 1 gig over two 512meg cards:
Usually the 1 gig will be priced lower than 2 512 cards.
The 1 gig card will hold twice as many photos.
That is about it.
Brand name has turned out to be a non-issue for almost all memory cards. They have to be made to a standard and they will all work.
Olympus and Fujifilm came up with the xD card.
And Sandisk is a trusted card maker.
I believe that Olympus may have a stitch feature that is only available if you use the Olympus brand of card.
A gimmick to sell more of their brand of cards.
This is pretty much of a non issue too, as there are plenty of software programs that can do stitching for panorama photos.
