SOURCE: The temperature setting, located on

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

Based on your post I understand you have a problem with a freezer, however if you could provide the make (brand name) & complete model number I would be better equipped to assist you without generalizing on what it may or may not be.

The model number in the post header (frigidaire FFU2124D) can't be right as that indicates it is a manual thermostat freezer with the colntrol inside the cabinet.

This being the case it is better I wait before saying too much...at the risk of it being irrelavent or contrary to the operation of your particular unit.

I'll watch and look forward for your reply and we can go forward from here. Thank you for visiting FixYa for your inquiry.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Why does my Frigidaire model LGHB2869LF4 freezer temp cycle as high as 15 F? It happens at least once a week, though not each day. I notice high temps at night, and when I wake up it's back to 0 F.

that might be when the defrost cycle is kicking in , AT NIGHt . try setting the temperature to a lower setting . freezers should be well below zero

FREEZER THERMOSTAT

Sounds like the thermostat is not working. Mechanical and electronic thermostats can go bad and cause the freezer to continue running no matter what setting is set on thermostat. When this happens the only setting that will work is turning the temperature setting to off. What is the model number on your freezer? Sea Breeze

Frigidaire freezer has ice accumulating and not freezing properly. Ice cream will not freeze.

Try turning the temperature control to off, unplug the electrical power cord from the power outlet, defrost the appliance, clean the condenser, plug the power cord into an electrical outlet, set the temperature control to a low setting, lay a thermometer in the freezer for a few hours and see what happens to the temperature in the machine.
Check the integrity of the seal of the door gasket by seeing how the door seal will hold a slip of paper in various locations along the freezer door gasket. A loose hold on the slip of paper shows an area where hot moist air can get into the freezer and cause ice build up.

My freezer does not keep my ice cream hard, yet it freezes meats, etc. without a problem. What is wrong?

You don't note whether or not you've adjusted the thermostat. Ice cream (and juices) requires at least zero degrees, if not minus 5 degrees, for storage. Meats, fish, bread, etc. can become rock hard at much higher temperatures. Try setting the thermostat lower.

Freezer used as a frige?

it may be possible. Turn the temperature on the lowest setting and see what happens. If it still freezes everything up then it is not posible. If it doesn't freeze everything , then check the temperature with any temp probe. It should run at somewhere between 36 and 38 degrees. This is the normal cool setting on a refrigerator.

Freezer extremly cold, some frost on items. The fridge is also too cold, freezing food in the bottom crisper bin. Kenmore Elite side by side model # 5320902. We have the temperatures set higher to...

The compressor is cycled on/off by the fresh food temperature setting. The freezer setting controls a panel, or door if you will, that allows cold air to be blown into the freezer.

Since both compartments are getting too cold, the most likely culprit is the fresh food thermostat control, since it controls the compressor cycle. Try setting it to a higher setting, even if it's above normal. Use a manual thermometer to check the temperature of the fresh food compartment and compare it to the control setting. The readings should be the same or very nearly the same.

I assume your refrigerator is controlled by a solid state controller (i.e. a printed circuit board). Some of these allow for calibration of the thermostat to coincide with the actual temperature of the fresh food compartment. That would most likely have to be done by a service technician unless you have expertise in the field.

If calibration is not an option, if you can live with the thermostat setting not reflecting the actual temperature, a free fix is to simply set it higher than you actually want it to be, recognizing that the actual temperature is 'X' degrees lower than the thermostat setting.

The freezer compartment temperature will be similarly affected, and can be controlled by the freezer temp setting, which is actually nothing more than setting the position of the panel which allows or restricts air from being blown into the fresh food compartment from the freezer. Again, the compressor is cycled on and off by the thermostat in the FRESH FOOD compartment which gets its cold air from the freezer compartment.
