SOURCE: configure WRT300N wireless Router to connect internet using PPPoE

Often the nets and subnets are NOT the same.. ie The Fixed connection often uses 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, however sometimes the wifi is setup 10.1.1.1, or 10.0.0.1 etc, have you checked this? Esentially tho ya router is an "Acess Point" and ya Lappy etc is ya "Client" the links below has a lot of tutorials to help have a look. http://portforward.com/routers.htm http://portforward.com/guides.htm

SOURCE: Linksys WAP54G connection to WRT54G

Ok, so why do you need an access point upstairs and a router downstairs connected wirelessly? If you can't connect with a laptop or a pc, why whould you think you could connect the access point? The purpose of this configuration would have to be with the access point to the router via ethernet. What's the point? If the problem is range, check out http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/index.php to enhance the capabilities of the WRT54G... and maybe building a parabolic antenna for it as well. Plans to do so abound at Lifehacker.com.

SOURCE: connecting using wireless

I don't believe Zyxel supports only Zyxel products. Finally, after analyzing the problem between the zyxel and the router, I found a solution that worked and allowed me to network both wired and wireless connections here at home. Set your router to auto-dhcp settings. Clone the MAC address of your computer. After this is done, put OFF first the router but make sure that the cable from the router WAN port is attached to the modem already. Then, put ON the zyxel and wait until it is fully functioning (2 lighted LED lights) before you switch ON the modem. Let both units (router and zyxel modem)synchronize first about a minute or so. Then connect/put ON your computers.

I found the above procedure to do it step by step so as to avoid conflict signals during synchronization which seems to be causing the non-internet connection.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: 2wire 2700hg-b wired router wont allow setup of Linksys WAP54G access point

the ip address of the 2wire router might be different from the ip address being used by the wap54g (ip address is 192.168.1.245 by default) that's why it's not being detected.
you need to directly connect the wap54g to a computer and set the computer to use a static ip address (ex. 192.168.1.240) and run the cd that came with the wap54g. you need to set the ip address of the wap54g to the same segment being used by your router to make them see each other

hope this'll help you and just ask me if you have other concern

ciao!

How to configure a wired/wireless home network

Hello,

In this guide I will go over the steps needed to setup a basic home network. In this network, we will have a desktop computer, a wireless laptop, printer, router and cable modem.

g33k4u_0.jpg

*All devices should be turned off at this point*

1) The cable modem which is usually provided by your internet service provider, should be connected to your coaxial cable(broadband internet) that is active, and can be anywhere in your household. This modem can also be for DSL connections(phone line).

*If you only have one device you wish to connect to your home network, this device can plug directly into the modem and you will not need a router*

2) Next, you will need to connect the router to the modem. You will use a Cat5 cable to do this. It is also commonly referred to as a Ethernet cable or patch cable. On the modem, you will see a Ethernet port, plug one end of the cable to this port. On the router, you will see many Ethernet ports. The port you wish to use to connect the modem to the router is usually separated from the other ports and may be labeled (modem or internet). The ports labeled 1-6 for example are your LAN ports and normally for computers etc. So, plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the port labeled modem or internet that is away from the other ports.

g33k4u_1.jpg

3) Now, for each device you wish to have wired network access(computers, laptops, game consoles) you will need to plug an Ethernet cord into each one, and plug the other end into one of the LAN ports on your router.

4) Power on the cable modem, wait 30 seconds then power on the router.

4) Next, you will need to power on your desktop in order to configure the router. Please consult your routers manual in order to do so.

5) Once your router is configured, you should be able to access it from any of your devices and these devices should have access to the internet. If you wish to have wireless access also, you will need to setup wireless security, password and a SSID. Your SSID is the name you give the router, and this is the name that will show up when you search for routers within range of your computer. Below is a picture of a list of wireless access point SSID.

g33k4u_3.png

6) At this point there are several ways to connect a printer. For simplicity, you can connect it to one of the computers, and give access to the other computers. The following guide will go over this step,
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Install-a-printer

I hope this guide helps you in your quest to setup a basic home network. There are many factors that come into play and additional steps may need to be taking but this will get you started!

Regards,
G33k

Configuration of NETGEAR router as Access Point:

The below steps illustrates the usage of router's like WGR614, WGT624, WPN824 as an access point to extend the wireless network in your location. The only required setup is that you should have a DHCP server running on your network ( be it your modem or a different router).

1. Connect a computer directly to NETGEAR router on any of the four LAN ports.
2. Access the router, usually with http://192.168.1.1 or http://www.routerlogin.com.
3. Login to the router with the Username as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the Username and Password are case sensitive).
4. Click on wireless settings in the left hand side menu Under Setup.
5. Change the network name SSID to some other name.
6. Select security options as 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)'.
7. Set the 'Authentication Type' as 'Automatic' and Set the 'Encryption Strength' as 64-bit.
8. In Key 1 type a 10 digit number.
9. Apply the settings.

Click on LAN IP setup from the left menu.

1. Change the IP address of the router from 192.168.1.1 to a free IP of your existing DHCP network.
2. Also disable the DHCP of the router by unchecking the box for 'Use router as DHCP Server'.
3. Click apply and click ok for any popup message that arise.
4. Once the browser display some error message like CANNOT FIND SERVER, ACTION CANCELLED etc, turn off the router and restart the computer.

Now, connect the two router in the following way:

1.Connect Ethernet cable from the Lan port of the existing router/modem to the Lan port of the NETGEAR router.
2. Powercycle both the routers and your computer
3. You may connect other computers' directly to NETGEAR router or wirelessly as per your requirement.

Can't access internet, says I am connected but then says no internet connection

I think you should try to reset and reconfigure the Linksys router and see if that works.

If your Linksys router is old then you can also upgrade firmware on the router.

Connect your computer directly to the modem and make sure that you can access Internet directly through the modem.

Connect the modem and computer to the router. Open the setup page of the router and change the settings manually.

Try this website to setup your Linksys router manually.

I can also suggest you a Fiverr Gig where you can pay only $5 and get support for your Linksys router.

Welcome to Fixya

It means that you entering an incorrect passkey. Try to access your routers homepage and check the wireless security settings. Compare the password that you are entering if it will match to the one that is inside the router. You may try to change the password by yourself.

Thank you for using Fixya!

Router unable to talk to my computer

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
To access the Internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router.

Router Question

hello!

-- what is the brand of your modem? have you tried connecting your computer directly to the modem and check if you can get online? If yes, Internet connection is fine and the problem is on the router if not, call your ISP first and check your connectivity with them.

-- have you tried connecting your computer directly to the router without connecting the modem to the router and check if you can access the router setup page? there are some cases where in the modem and the router have same IP address that's why you cant access the setup page of the router because of IP Conflict. Try to access the router page , router not connected to the modem only on the computer and change the LAN IP address of the router to 192.168.2.1. Connect the modem to the router and try again to shut down everything and power on the devices one by one and check if you can get online.

-- if after changing the LAN IP address still doesnt work, try to check if you can access the router page by the new IP Address. Make sure that you do not have other firewall or any security enabled on the pc. If yes, try to enable the MAC Address clone on the router and check again the internet connection. Try to configure the router with a diff computer also help isolate the problem

-- if after that and it still not working last option is to upgrade the firmware of the router. possible that there is a problem with the router and upgrading the firmware normally fix internal problem. If that still doesnt work, the router is defective.
