Question about Wurlitzer Jukebox CD Player
Sometimes the CD player works ok , after a while the music starts 'shifting ' , that means skipping small parts of the number . Maybe the turning speed isn't correct ? Magnetic holder ? Does anyone have experience with this ?
I can't tell for sure what it is, but as far as my experience goes, i can suggest a few possibilities:
It might me a dusty laser lens, which is a bit unlikely since the player works fine sometimes, but cleaning the lens might improve the situation somewhat.
Another possibility are oxydized brushes and commutator on the spindle (drive) and slide (laser pickup position) motor. This is quite likely to occur if the device operates in a dusty/smogy/damp ambient.
The residues on the brushes and the commutator will increase motor's resistance and cause it to have less power at a certain voltage applied from the drive device. As the drive device tries to compensate for the loss of power, it heats up and, in time, starts to behave erratically.
One solution is to take the motors apart and clean the brushes and the commutator (kinda tricky, delicate and time consuming, also depends on the structure of a motor).
The other solution is to replace both motors (the errors in operation of each motor sum up, so replacing just one of them might improve the situation to some degree, but it won't fully solve the problem).
Also, there is the chance of the drive IC having internal damage due to overheating when it compensates for power loss on the motors - this would require the replacement of the driver device(s), possibly also the filter capacitors associated to these driver ICs, maybe also other capacitors in the power supply line for that section.
Hope this helps somehow...
