First time user, steam valve on my xl power pressure cooker sits loosely in the sealed position. Wonder if it is broken. It doesn't turn easily to open. haven't started cooking yet. Can you help me?

the valve is a safety valve to release pressure that gets too high
the action is by the weight of the valve itself sitting over a small opening
as pressure is generated by resistance to flow, that small opening area has to have enough pressure ( psi /surface area) to overcome the resistance to flow ( the weight of the valve body)
when that happens there is a brief loss of pressure and then the valve reseats and the cycle begins again
simple ,effective and safe
to relieve the pressure before opening the lid , remove the valve

How do I open the stuck lid on my Power Pressure Cooker?

The cooling food has caused a vacuum making it worse. If you heat the food very gently as not to burn the contents, the lid should open once it is hot. Release any pressure and try and open it again.

I can't take the lid off the pressure cooker, it's as though the locking mechanism doesn't has not disengaged

pressure use a 1/4 turn of the top against the bottom to undo the locks after the pressure in the pot has been released by removing the safety valve
any pressure at all in the pot effectively stops the lid from turning

How do I remove a lid from a pot after it has been sealed by steam

What has likely happened is when the cooker heated up, the air expanded and escaped, when it cooled off, an air tight seal developed and the top acted as a valve and now the pressure is lower inside the cooker than outside. You need to break the vacuum... This may be done by gently prying the top a bit (carefully so as not to break it) or reheat the cooker. Is there liquid still inside? You could either turn it back on or possibly heat the entire cooker.

Se e4 on my cooker what do i do

The problem is a Signal Switch Malfunction. It has to do with the power switch and the pressure switch from what I have been able to find out. Mine doesn't have a pressure problem it just goes to E4 once you set the time. I gave the switch a good smack and it has been working for a while. This is the second time and this worked both times now. I am sure the switch will have to be replaced at some time. From what I have seen this is a very common problem. There is one way to fix this problem, albeit not the best. I was able to bypass the E4 error by completely bypassing the electronics and wiring the heater coil to get power whenever the pressure cooker is plugged in. It was a very simple job, anyone with any electrical experience can do this. The only problem is that it is a safety concern as there is no way for the heater to turn off even if pressure is getting to be way too high. There may be a pressure relief valve in the lid but the heater coil won't shut off, so don't leave it unattended! But at least this way to you can still pressure cook. The recalled 8 qt ultrex ll pressure cooker model # 11302c will the lid come off on its own or does it just not lock while under pressure?

Halt, do not use this pressure cook. The lid is suspose to lock. This means the lid become a dangerous fly object if it came off under pressure, plus extremely hot boiling water and the contents of the pressure cooker. Beside possible dying from the lid, and if one survives the flying lid, one will be will scalded by the contents of the pressure cooker. Another pressure cooker manufactured in China. Sorry, GB...stewbison

I am confused is the russell hobbs slow cooker a slow cooker or is it a pressure cooker i am looking for a pressure cooker not a slow cooker

Russel Hobbs makes both a slow cooker and a pressure cooker - confusingly in Europe they call Slow Cookers pressure cookers. The only way to really tel is if there is a special lid with valves and locks (pressure cooker) not a glass or plain lid (slow cooker).

I can't get my 17quart pressure cooker to seal. I was looking for an online manuel so i could find out why.

Take the rubber ring out of the lid.
Wash it with warm soapy water.
Dry it.
Oil it with vegetable oil.
Now do you see how the rubber ring has a groove around it on the inside? Push your thumb into the groove and work it around the ring, you're trying to spread the rubber V out.

Put it back in the lid and take it for a test run.

In the future store your cooker with the lid upside down on top, keeping it closed will ruin the seal.

If it still won't seal replace the rubber parts, you can get a kit for your cooker from presto.

Displays E2 and E4 (5 qt Wolfgang Puck pressure cooker - silver) what section is problem mechanical or electronic?

I think E2 means open circuit in thermocouple in center of bottom. E4 means no contact on pressure sensing switch at edge of bottom. Mine had E4 error. Took out switch and used fine sandpaper to clean contact points. Now it works fine.
Remove 3 screws in bottom. Remove bottom cover by turning it ~1/4" to clear tabs. Remove switch at edge of bottom with two blue wires going to it. Clean contacts and replace.

Displays e4 wont work

Removed the 3 screws on the bottom. There is a relay near the circuit board. Kind of looks like an old morse code relay. Just tapped out "E 4" in morse code. Plugged it in and it works fine.
