Weedeater repair

Its possible that the drive shaft is broken or the end of the shaft is worn where it hooks into the gear head. The trimmer head has a hex fitting that meshes with the gear assembly in order for it to turn, its possible the hex is worn on the cutting head from usage, which would require replacing the outer spool assembly. Here is a link to a parts breakdown.

The weedeater string part below the Gaurd fell off I disconected the shaft and put the blower attachment on and it works fine. Is it the string head that's bad or the inside cable orthe coplete...

The part below the guard is designed to come off for cleaning and restringing, as long as you still have all the parts, you just need to put it back together and it will be fine.

The head on the trimmer wont turn with much power, i re-inserted the spool and it worked for a few seconds, then the string tightened or something and the head wouldnt turn anymore

Unfortunately, it sounds like the metal drive coupling on the end of the crankshaft has stripped (more or less has metal removed from inside it) or the end of the flexshaft that drives the string head is stripped or broken. Disassembly will be required to inspect and repair this. I would refer you to a parts/diagrams breakdown with pricing too, but you haven't included the make and manufacturer. The metal drive coupling is a simple, inexpensive part that requires about a 14mm wrench to remove (on the Weedeater brand models). Here is a site that has parts for thousands of machines. or

Once you have the string wound onto the spool, place the spool onto the shaft and pull the strings out of the slots so that the string feeds through the holes without going through the slots. Good luck...Lee

What needs to be done to remove the head off of a stihl weedeater?

If you are talking about the spool and string area, remember that Stihl have left hand threads so you turn it the opposite of lefty, loosy, righty tighty. There is a small hole in the side of the head to insert a special tool that came with the weedtrimmer when you purchased it. If the tool isn't available use a small phillips or flathead screw driver to hold the gear box still while unscrewing the head counterclockwise.

Don't know how to advance cutting wire.

Did you try bumping the head on the ground? Also, the head could be dirty, keeping the string from feeding. Or maybe the previous owner tried putting a larger size string in the head. Check to see what the proper size is for your trimmer.
Both of these suggestions could cause this.
