SOURCE: kenmore refrigerator 253.7031 touch panel reads freezer temperature 5Y refrigerator temperature EF. What does it mean. refrigerator is getting very warm 71 Fahrenheit

The EF SY code indicates the evaporator fan circuit has failed or the sensor isn't registering cold air flow. Since the fridge is warm, the fan isn't running. You'll need to check the fan motor and the control board wiring. Unplug the refrigerator before checking the wiring. (You'll need a multimeter to check for continuity/voltages/resistance in those wires. You can use a 9V battery to check if the fan works. It's a DC motor; connect the red and yellow wires to the positive terminal of the battery. Connect the brown wire (on some models) to the negative terminal. Check the wiring harness for corrosion as well. The fan is at the back of the refrigerator. The control board is on the bottom, behind the toe kick plate.

If the fan motor is good, then the control board is bad. The fan motor is part 60 here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/kenmore-refrigerator-parts/model-25370312211/0582/0161000/R1209145/00005.html . The control board is part 50 on the same page. It may be better to replace both parts at once.

You should also check if the fan has been freezing up. If the refrigerant system is leaking, ice build up on the fan can stop it from spinning. This will cause the fan motor to fail but the replacement part will fail again if the ice build up problem isn't solved first.

I hope this helps.

My Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator showing HI temp.and with code5Y and EF, what does it mean?

An EF code is indicative of an Evaporator Fan Circuit Failure. Can it be stopped by ice or frost? Absolutely. Press the freezer up button and the freezer down button simultaneously for 6-8 seconds and you will enter a test mode. Every time you press the fresh food button after entering the test you will advance to the next test. They are not in numerical order. Go to test 26 (The defrost circuit test) and it will show CL for closed or OP for open. If it shows OP you have a defrost issue. If CL there is no defrost problem. Next go to test 15 - keeping in mind they ( the tests are Not in numerical order). When you get to 15 press the main power on/off button. The 1st time you press it the display will show LO and the fan should be on low speed. The next time you press the power button it will show HI, and the fan should be on high. It is a twelve vdc fan motor wire colors red, yellow, brown, and blue. They originate at the j6a and j4a connectors. If the fan does not come on in the test the check will be made at the control. There should always be 12vdc between brown and red, and there should be 9 - 12 vdc between brown and yellow in the test. The blue wire is a tach wire and feeds info back to the lower control which is located behind the kick plate underneath the unit. EX factory service 22 years currently an instructor. I have a Frigidaire Gallery refrigerator model no, FGHS2679KE0 on the temperature control panel the display reads 5Y CE and the alarm is on what does this mean

Hey friend, thank you for your inquiry!

Based off the information you have provided your Frigidaire refrigerator is displaying "5Y CE". I have researched that code and believe it is an error code of "SY CE" which means a communication error after power up. I would recommend resetting your refrigerator and you can do that by disconnecting power from your appliance for ten minutes.

If that does not help correct the issue it could be a faulty main control board or user interface board. I would consult with a technician to come out and provide an accurate diagnosis. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

What does the error code 5y EF mean on my Frigidaire refrigerator

Good Morning Friend,

I understand you are receiving an "SY EF" code on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS3R5EMB. The "SY EF" code stands for system error with the evaporator fan. This possibly means that there is something going on with your evaporator fan or it could possibly be a false error code. . I suggest resetting your appliance, by either unplugging it or shutting the power off at your home's circuit breaker, for 3-5 minutes. I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your appliances status has changed successfully.

-Best Regards-

My display code says 5Y EF

Good Morning Karen, thank you for allowing me to assist you!

Typically error code SY CE, is commonly referred to an issue between the main control board and the user interface (the control on the Freezer door). A tech would typically check the communication wiring wires between both parts to determine the cause of the error code. If the wiring is correct, then more than likely you are looking at a faulty main control board or user interface. Regrettably, this is not a simple DIY job. I would highly recommend reaching out to an expert technician to ensure the appropriate replacement part is ordered and is installed correctly to prevent future issues. I hope this information helps to some degree - thanks for your question, and please do not hesitate to reconnect.

What is code 5y and ef

Hi M - I am happy to assist you! Error codes SY/EF is commonly refer to a failure with the evaporator fan circuit. Let's try resetting the refrigerator by either unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker to the off position. It is important to wait roughly ten minutes and then turn the unit back on. If resetting the power does not correct the issue, then more than likely there is a potential wiring failure between the main control board and evaporator fan. In this regard, I would personally suggest to reaching out to a repair tech to further evaluate and repair you appliance. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to reconnect.

On the freezer and fridge temp display there are the codes SY and EF. My manual doesnt give any trouble codes.

There is either something wrong with the fan or the computer. But the only thing you can do is go through the owners manual if you can't correct it with that you will have to call for warranty service. If you go any further then that you will void the warranty.

The short answer is that EF on the Electrolux refrigerator digital display means "evaporator fan." The long answer is, it doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong with your Electrolux refrigerator.

Hope helps.
