Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Embroidery on 780. Locked up and now I can't get it to embroider without knotting bobbin. Cleaned, oiled, rethreaded, broke 3 needles. Did this one day in class at dealer. What can I check?

Only thing I can think of is to be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread.

How do I fix my loose bottom tension?

Remove the thread from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread the machine from the beginning. Verify the path is correct. The standard tension setting is the midway point although you will most likely need to tweak this for your particular machine.

If you are still having problems, you may need to readjust the bobbin tension.

Machine locked up with needle down in the machine

If you can, try to remove the needleplate and the bobbin case from the machine. Once the bobbin case is removed, the needle should be free.

My top thread does not pick up the bobbin thread. I broke a needle in it the other day and replaced the needle and now having trouble with the bobbin thread. It is not turning? I am very new to embroidery....

Take off your throat plate and make sure that there is not a piece of your needle still in there, brush it out and oil your machine if it needs it. Now rethread.

Bird nest when trying to sew. Under material by bobbin - tried changing needle, bobbin. Tension - no change to the problem from Auto for regular sewing to 2 for embroidery

i think you have something catch on the tension guides. Try to clean out anything you can see and pull a thread towards the needle. I have done this with a small knot to snare anything but be gentle. Also, rethread carefully.
Try cleaning the bobbin case too

Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 keeps breaking needles

The threading may be out of the channels. Rethread. Put in a fresh needle. Make sure you are using an embroidery needle and a new one for each new project. You can't use YLI bobbin thread. It stinks. If all this doesn't help, take it in to be checked These work great when there is not thread stuck in the bobbin case and it is threaded properly. If all is well, it will go like gangbusters.

Once I set up my design card and select design, the needle moves

Hi, and welcome to FixYa. If I understand your problem, the needle goes in and out of your fabric, and the embroidery hoop moves, but the machine does not actually start embroidering your design right away....did I get it right? If have time to answer a few questions, I can give more accurate instructions.

  1. How long have you had your machine?
  2. How long have you been doing machine embroidery?
  3. Do you have a manual for your machine?
  4. Look at the back side of your design - do you see lots of bobbin thread, or hardly any?
  5. Have you taken lessons for your machine or for embroidery?
  6. When your design is finished, can you where the machine skipped stitches?
Here a couple of things you can try (if you have already):

  • Make sure you use an embroidery needle, not a universal. In most cases, you should use a size 90. Change your needle after each project. A blunt need can cause your machine to skip embroidery stitches anywhere in the design.
  • Rewind or replace your bobbin. Make sure you use bobbin thread in your bobbin when you embroider - it is thinner and gives you better tension. If pre-wound embroidery bobbins are compatible with your machine, I recommend that you try one and compare the result with designs sewn using the bobbin thread you've been using.
  • Normally, you should loosen your tension a little bit when you embroider. When you look at the back side of your embroidery, you should see more bobbin thread than embroidery thread.
I owned an embroidery business for several years, and I have six different embroidery machines of my own - so with a little more info from you, I think I can help.

Not picking up the Bobbin thread

I cleaned the machine good with canned air, oiled it. I took out the bobbin case and cleaned it good also. I then noticed the tension screw on the bobbin case was loose, tightened it and the problem was fixed.

Thread Mess!

The symtoms you describe are typical to insufficient top tension.

First check the dension dial is on S for normal sewing and E for embroidery. If this is the case, re thread your machine with the pressure foot up and make sure the thread goes over the take up lever.

The thread keeps breakijng when I am embroidering

It could just be that your needle is blunt and you need to put a new one in. It is amazing how many different problems a blunt needle can cause. Hope its sorted now.
