Can the walking belt dry out? We bought the 995 in 2003. It's gotten very light use, but we're noticing grainy or powdery residue each time we use it. Could it be the walking belt drying out?

SOURCE: After a wash the dishes are have a grainy residue on them

I had a similar problem, found that I took it all apart cleaned all the filters and ran clr or kitchen magic in it , it helped. but also found that the top arm wasn't spinning. So I took the bottom piece off with some kind of star end like a screwdriver, and the check ball was stuck. I had a time without soft water and I think the gonk made my dishwashers gunky. All is fixed now. Le t me know if this helps

SOURCE: Dishes not completely drying and white powder residue left.

the problem is not the dishwasher but the water that actually is going into it. the white, powder substance is because of hard water. there is a affordable product out there called the dishwasher filtration system. it will filter the water going into your dishwasher and solve the problem once and for all!!! it is affordable and easy to install.

Dishes have a powdery residue

If there is not enough water, the dishes would not get cleaned. This could be caused by a partially closed water shut-off valve (located under the sink), or a faulty dishwasher water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side).

Also, There is usually two, sometimes three spray arms in a dishwasher. Make sure there is no debris blocking the holes inside each spray arm.

**Water temperature Note***

To get the best results, the water has to be at 120 degrees Fahrenheit when entering the dishwasher.

NOTE(((excessive calcium build up inside the dishwasher can cause this as well. I recommend cleaning the inside of the unit with a dishwasher cleaner called Dishwasher Magic. its good stuff and it will get rid of that calcium build up)))

I have a different suggestion based on my washer's similar problem. If the black stuff is powdery and localized at the back of the unit, more than likely the culprit is the drum pulley itself is warped, causing the belt to chafe against the drum. The black powder is rubber residue from the scraping of belt on plastic. No need to replace unit. New belt and new pulley run about $70 each.

Putting my fdw60 aquarius dishwasher back together

check that the place where u put the salt in is screwed in tightley, then, i find giving the dishes a hand wash and they come up clean , ti will work fine, because if you notic, take a glass with white powdery residue out of the dishwasher and rinse it under water, and the residue is still there, so they need a good scrub and after that , they can be washed as normal!
