Did you get the printer serviced when you got the first error message? You need to have the ink pads replaced and then reset the ink pad counter. See the following URL: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp?cookies=no&com.broadvision.session.new=Yes (long URL).
You can get it serviced by Epson and some independent repair places.
The only alternative is replacing the printer. I do not know the cost of the parts and labor and can't tell you if it's worth the repair if the printer is out of warranty.

UNINSTALL the old driver
INSTALL the new, if it asks to use existing driver or new, choose USE the NEW one
