My Dolphin turns on and runs forward for about 5 seconds and then goes backwards for about 10 seconds and then stops. Any suggestions?

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

For starters, try the tip I posted here on Fixya, found at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r3651526-dolphin_pool_cleaner_wont_start_up. If that is not enough, try our sites FAQ section on Dolphins at www.arrowpools.net. Select the FAQ button then from the drop-down select Dolphin.

If none of this helps your problem could be in the power supply, cable or motor unit.

The motor unit is the most likely problem; the motor(s) inside it is probably failing. When the drive motor and/or impeller motor move you can assume the power supply and cable/electric connections are ok.

Whether the unit is in or out of warranty you can either send it to a service center (which we are one) or try to repair it yourself however it is not recommended you open the cord end that connects to the motor unit as you are breaking the seal for the submersible electronics. You should also be aware that there are no parts available for inside the motor unit. If anything inside is damaged a whole new assembly is required. The motor unit for that cleaner is about $400 and when installed by a non-service center does not come with a warranty so you are better off sending it in for a complete diagnosis and estimate.

For information about the repair and sending it to a center you can contact Dolphin direct at www.maytronicsus.com or our site at www.arrowpools.net.

For units still covered under warranty you should first contact Maytronics for directions. They can sometimes troubleshoot the problem over the phone but if the issue is beyond simple phone support they can start the process of getting the unit repaired thru a warranty center which we are.

To contact Maytronics call 1-888-DOLPHIN or try their website at: www.maytronicsus.com. If directed to us in Michigan our site is found here: www.arrowpools.net.

My dolphin advantage runs for a few minutes in each direction but then stops. When I reset it the impellor runs but the machine does not move, then all stops. What is happening?

Dolphin Interactive pool cleaner stops running

If the dolphin is falling backward when it meets the water line, there is an easy fix. The automatic pool cleaners often have this problem. The easiest solution is to remove the handle floats and attach an 8 oz weight to the bottom inlet cover.

Running it next to the pool is not very telling as it will shut itself off in that time anyway. Do you have access to another power supply to try with it? It is possible, though unlikely, it is the problem. It is more likely the motor pack and a new one is costly. If you would like parts or a quote on a motor replacement, use the dolphin contact portion of our website at www.arrowpools.net.

I have the exact same problem with my unit!

It is probably the motor unit and should still be under warranty if it is less than 2 years old. You can use our Dolphin service form at www.arrowpools.net or contact the manufacturer at www.maytronicsus.com for service information.

Runs slow then stops for no apparent reason

You can contact us at www.arrowpools.net for service. There is also a FAQ for Dolphins in the FAQ section.

You can also try the manufacturer at www.maytronicsus.com for answers. It may be the power supply but is more likely an issue in the motor pack. It may still be under warranty depending on the purchase date and model. Some have 3 year motor warranties.

Having problems with my dolphin diagnostic explorer robotic pool

Your motor unit was covered for up to 3 year under warranty. Confirm your warranty status at http://www.maytronicsus.com/en-US/home/homepage/ and perhaps the repairs are still covered.
