How do I find out why my singer magic press 4 won't work? no light comes on, no heat

Assuming you have tried different power points in the house, it is likely the mains cable plug of the iron is faulty. Worst the cutoff fuse or control inside has tripped. Would suggest if mains cable or plug is ok then buy a new iron as these can be risky to repair without knowing what one is doing.

I have a rowenta proffesional luxe iron but the cable keeps turning it off so when i move the cable it goes back on and when i am ironing it shuts off

you have a open circuit that occurs due to a wire loose at the plug end or a loose connection within the iron. a break in the cable will also display the systems you discribe. check for loose connections before you decide to replace the cable. by keeping the cable stationery when the iron is on at the plug end check wether it switches off when you move the cable near the plug end.if it switches off the loose wire is in the plug if it does not the try the moving the cable nearer the Iron end.

My iron stopped working suddenly whilst I was ironing. The light which would normally appear is now off. I changed the fuse but to no avail. How and where can I get it checked?

Hi!!

If you know how to use a VoltMeter, you con fix it.

A very common problem with Irons is the power cable, It temds to wear until it breaks due to constant bending and twisting, it usually hapens at the Iron's end or at the plug end.

Take the cable off the iron and check for continuity while turning and twisting the suspected spots. Replace cable if unsure.

Good Luck

Iron wont turn on

Probably a broken or burnt wire, you need to open the iron and tie or solder the wires back together, it'll be functional again. Good luck

When plugged in iron will not "turn on." If shaken it will sometimes turn on then shut off again. Appears to be an auto shut-off problem.

Could also be a break in the supply cable inside the cable guide

The cable moves during ironing and as the cable guide is fairly rigid , the inner cable gets stressed and snaps

Try waggling the cable instead of shaking the iron

When i am ironing all the power in the house goes off and it is a brand new iron

Patrick,
The iron may actually be ok. If not, remember that because it's new it will come with a guarantee.

Did you put the plug onto the iron yourself? Check inside the plug to make sure that there's no bare wires that can touch as the cord flexes as you iron. This would cause it to short and throw the power in the house.

Try using the iron in a different room. If you get the same problem then there's possibly a wiring fault (maybe a broken/worn insulation on the wires of the iron cord ... though as it's new, I would doubt this).

Are you using an electrical extension lead to plug the iron into? If you haven't overloaded the socket with other electrical appliances it may be that the extension cable has a broken/faulty/loose wire inside that when they touch, causes the power to go off. A few years ago the power in my house used to go off on occasions whenever someone went to the fridge. The fault was traced to split insulation on one of the wires in the extension cable I was using. Whenever somebody stood on the cable it shorted out and cut the power.

To be really sure - go into a neighbours and use the iron! If the power goes off - it's the iron at fault. If not, it's probably just a small problem like worn insulation/loose/broken wire in an extension lead in your own house.
