Well pump losing prime

you might have a leak in the foot valve, you can try installing a check valve several inches before the intake to maintain a prime, or check and clean/replace the foot valve.

If the pump ran dry, check the inlet fitting. the pump can get hot and melt pvc piping connected to it, causing air to leak in the inlet side.,

Locating suction line on pentair pump

the center of the pump is where it gets suction the discharge is on the outside of the pump.. so look under the tuRN in in red in turn pump off this is water out, the fitting all the way to the left is the in or suction side of most all pumps.. WARNING YOU MUST PRIME THE PUMP FIRST about 3 gallons. if you don't it will burn up the shaft seal and slowly leak water into the motor.. need more help search your area for the pool pump repair guy and ask him for help.. pictures are a big help so have a few on hand ready to email.. My pump has water squirting out the sides, can you tell me what to do? It also shuts off after a short time.

sounds like it needs a volute gasket, you can remove the six bolts that hold the wet end to the seal plate and replace the gasket. It's the same color (almost) as the pump body. The shutting off part can be a number of things. It can be a flow issue, possibly caused by the leak. Intelliflo pumps are tricky, if replacing the gasket does not help the shutting down problem, you may have to call a tech. There are many variables that could cause that.

Our 1.5 HP pentair challenger pump isn't holding its prime

Usually, if a pump will not hold its prime, there is an air leak somewhere in the system. Things to look for are small leaks around the equipment-could be a bad o-ring. If you do not see any leaks, turn off the pump, remove the lid from the basket, check it for a hairline crack and check the o-ring under the lid to see if it is the cause of the loss of pressure.

Pump problems?

Their can be a number of things.. Is the pump priming. Hopefully it did prime. what usually happens after running for awhile, with no cool water coming in. The water inside the pump basket starts to heat up, then the tubing turns to brownish on the input side of pump and exhaust side. (you could have air leaking in throught the input side, which could result in the pump never priming) Or if it is priming and no pressure (can mean your empellar is clogged up)
