How can I create a Facebook Group?

For a Genealogist, it is always difficult to research, especially with limited resources. However, the Internet has really changed the game a bit. It is now more easy to carry out research work, so as to pry out information and locate missing links. With Facebook, the task itself seems like a walk in the park.
If you are now looking for a way to gather information online, the best option would be to: Create a Facebook group.

But are you familiar with the procedure?

Here's how you can create a Facebook group

To create a Facebook group that suits your particular interest, you need to:

  • Click on the Create button, which you will find at the bottom of your Facebook home page.
  • Right under the Create button, you will get three options. Choose Group.
  • Once you have selected Group, a pop-up window will appear, where you are required to name the group.
  • After naming the group, start adding the members.
  • Depending on your need, you can concurrently create two different groups, so as to collect information from both the paternal and maternal side of your family.
  • To have the groups show up on your homepage, click Pin to Shortcuts.
  • When you have completed the task of creating the group, you can assign icons to represent the group.
  • If you are done with the task, follow the instructions, as provided by Facebook.
So, this is how you can go about a creating a group and being a genealogist, you will never really face any obstacle, as such.

How do I join my classmates on Facebook?

You can use the Facebook search option to search for people who go or went to that school. Just type "Pacific Grove High School students" in the search bar and you will get an overview of people on Facebook who have PGHS listed in their profile.

You can also search for things like PGHS Drama Club or PGHS Science Club. There doesn't seem to be a specific group for the class of 73 that I can find, but you will likely find some schoolmates by joining some of the other groups.

How to setup a familyweb page on facebook>?

Basically you need to create a group.

    1. When you log on to your facebook page, press the Home option on the top right of your facebook screen.
    2. On the menu options down the leftt side of the screen press Groups
    3. At the top of the screen press the + create new group button.
    4. Follow the steps and enter relevant details.
    5. Initially set yourself as the administrator of the group.

There are different options for privacy of the group and who can see the information of the group etc. See the groups help link on the groups first page (near the middle of the page)

For complete privacy the best option is "Secret: These groups cannot be found in searches or be viewed by non-members. The name of the group will not display on the profiles of members. Membership is by invitation only. Non-members will not receive stories about secret groups."

Make sure you are the Group administrator so you can adjust the settings or change the privacy/viewing options at any time by clicking "Edit Group" below the group photo after the group has been created.

I need a football badge on my profile

Login to Facebook and in the search box (top right), type in Manchester United and several groups will show up.

Choose the group you like and JOIN the group... that should put their badge on your homepage.

If you are REALLY into it, you can download an mimage file of the badge by doing a google search on it. Then update your profile so your profile photo is the badge.

    Hope that helps!
