We have videos on how to test them on our YouTube channel.

1st you need to decide if you have brushes on the alternator or not. To do this remove the end plate and see if there are wires going to a plastic or metal housing located on the bearing plate at 12 o'clock. Like shown in this photo: https://www.screencast.com/t/9wQ3yrVp

Once you have determined if it has brushes or not, then watch our video on how to test them here: https://www.youtube.com/generatorguru01/videos

Hope this helps! If you need more advice please contact us via our website www.generatorguru.com. :)

I have a Troy built 5550 Briggs and stration generator. It will crank right up but will not feed any energy. What part should I order?

Sounds like the power regulator. Did you check breaker, you may have push or flip type. Make sure brushes are clean, they are between motor and generator around drive shaft. Be careful with them that's what tells gen to work.

I am unable to access any of the blackberry services on my bold 9700. my carrier suggested that as the phone has been unlocked that i need to reflash? can you advise

Try to unlock your phone using blackberry bold 9700 unlock code network from your original sim card. If your phone already unlocked you didn't need reflash process, blackberry unlocked phones can use any other network sim card whenever you put that sim card on your phone.

gen sets require a dc voltage to energize the field windings and there is a voltage regulator built in
That could be faulty

I have a Coleman Powermate 6250. Runs Great, No power to outlets!

Excite the genset.

with the gen engine running,
1) plug a 3/8 drill into an outlet,
(make sure the drill is set to the forward rotation)
2) hold the trigger in the run position
3) by hand, rotate the drill chuck with a quick flip of your wrist.
*** NOTE: BE PREPARED !!! this will excite the gen-set and the drill will start to run as normal.

My troy-Bilt 5550 watt generator will not start

First drain the fuel bowl. Any old fuel in there will keep it from starting. Fuel stabilizer is not what it's it cracked up to be. I've worked for 6yrs at a rental yard and had no luck with any fuel stabilizer, the fuel still went bad. If after you drain the fuel bowl it still will not start, you will need to clean the carb. Remove the carb and spray carb cleaner through all the accessible passages. If this does not do it, you will need to replace the carb. For long term storage I highly recommend draining all the fuel and filling just the carb with fuel stabilizer to keep gaskets moist. Then drain the carb when you take it out of storage.

5000w gen. no powe out put

when engine runs but no power is produced ...there are three things you need to check:
1- brushes may be shattered.(open the generating unit cover(from the stator and rotor side) and you'll find it..if it is shattered..then replace it.
2- breaker...to test this disfunction...connect the two wires(the one going to it and the one coming out of it) together and try again...if it generated power..then the breaker is out of order...either replace it...or keep it connected directly (DON'T leave any naked wires)
3- AVR open the generatng unit cove again.you'll find the AVR (screwed to the rotor holder) here is a picture of an AVR:93c8b52.jpg if it is burnt out...replace it..
IF you tried the 3 things i wrote and none of them worked, then you have a problem with the stator or the rotor...but that is very rare to happen...it's probably one of the three///..
