SOURCE: NUMBERS ON BLOCK

Hello there:

Casting dates are usually expressed this way, “C 18 4.” In this example, the “C” means the month of
March, “18” is the day of the month, and “4” is the last digit of the year. This last digit may mean ’64, ’
74, ’84 or ’94, so you must also check the other characteristics of the block to determine in which
decade and year it was made. Some parts have the decade and year cast on them; these identifiers
look like this: “C 18 84.” GM introduced new model years in September or October of each year, so
when you see a casting date of “L 16 7” for example, this indicates a casting date used in the 1968
model year because it translates into December 16, 1967. A 1968 model Camaro assembled on
January 6, 1968, might contain a number of parts that were cast in December, 1967. Casting dates
should precede hand-stamped engine assembly dates.

I asked a question yesterday but now cant find it. Its about gm motor identification

The Vo is the plant that built the engine 720 is the month and day and the zzz is the engine code or parts make up for the engine. Now with that being said the engine was built at Flint V/8 engine in Flint, Mi. on July 20 year is not shown. I can also tell you the zzz engine is hand built off line on a special operation. Most of the hot rods like this engine because of the horse power it puts out. I know this as I was the General Supervisor for the job that built these engine and retired with 37 service. Hope this helps.

Cant find engine number on 2001 v8 jeep grand cherokee

On V-8 engines, the serial number is stamped on a machined pad on the left front corner of the cylinder block.

On the six cylinder engine, build date information can be found stamped on a machined pad located on the right side of the cylinder block between the No. 2 and 3 cylinders.

Looking for engine size, in a '65 chev Vin # 164675J110610

c17hydro_2.jpg
Sorry for this picture being so small but if you go to LMC Truck .com you can see what all the numbers and letters your VIN number stand for.

To know what size of motor you have in the vehicle, you need the LETTERS that are stamped on the engine itself. The locations are:

For an inline 6:

The six cylinder engine letters are stamped on a pad on the right side of the engine at the rear of the distributor-
230 CID 6 CYL---TA, TE, OR TG
292 CID 6 CYL---UH OR UT

For a V-8:

The V8 engine letters are stamped on a pad immediately forward of the right hand cylinder head (driver's side head)-
283 CID 8 CYL---WA AND WE

There is no 350 CID installed in '65 in the Chevy.

Also, this info is for a truck....is your question here for a truck or car?
